Clash of the Titans Was A Cakewalk For Mads Mikkelsen
Although Mikkelsen had some role in the 2010 film Clash of the Titans, Mikkelsen observed that the set of the movie was very warm. Comparing the film to his 2009 epic Valhalla Rising (which was shot in very cold weather), Mikkelsen felt like he was at a summer camp!
In an interview with the Daily Record, Mads Mikkelsen talked about how he worked for the 2010 film Clash of the Titans. Stating that he and the other actors had formed a great bond, Mikkelsen had fun working on the sets of the 2010 film.
“Making Clash Of The Titans was also fun but it was a lot warmer. It was mostly filmed in Tenerife, where we did all the battles with the giant scorpions. It was great. We were either working or drinking beers in the evening, not bad. We were basically spending 24 hours together and became a tight group – Sam, Nicholas Hoult, Liam Cunningham, all of us.”
On the other hand, the Hannibal actor talked about how a year before, he was stuck with Nicolas Winding Refn in the Scottish highlands shooting a Viking movie!
When Mads Mikkelsen Spent A Summer In Scotland
While comparing the fun that he had on the sets of Clash of the Titans, Mads Mikkelsen talked about the time he was in Scotland shooting Valhalla Rising. Despite stating that he is very proud of the movie, Mikkelsen was also close to losing his life while shooting.
“I’m very proud of Valhalla Rising. I worked with Nicolas before, but for this we had a completely different scenario. He is a master director. Any time he calls, I’ll be there for him. But it was a tough shoot, it was freezing cold and if we were not bruised up, we were getting hammered by the weather every day.”
He further continued,
“The fight scenes were the hardest. They took three days of shooting and everyone else was in insulated gear while we were there kicking the hell out of each other. That was one of those days you look at your birth certificate and say, ‘Man, I’m too old for this.'”
Despite the best efforts and the freezing cold, the 2009 film received a rating of 6/10 on IMDB and 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, however, gave Mikkelsen a newfound fame that helped him further in Hollywood. Valhalla Rising is available to stream on AMC+ in the U.S.
