“I’m very proud of Valhalla Rising. I worked with Nicolas before, but for this we had a completely different scenario. He is a master director. Any time he calls, I’ll be there for him. But it was a tough shoot, it was freezing cold and if we were not bruised up, we were getting hammered by the weather every day.”

He further continued,

“The fight scenes were the hardest. They took three days of shooting and everyone else was in insulated gear while we were there kicking the hell out of each other. That was one of those days you look at your birth certificate and say, ‘Man, I’m too old for this.'”

Despite the best efforts and the freezing cold, the 2009 film received a rating of 6/10 on IMDB and 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, however, gave Mikkelsen a newfound fame that helped him further in Hollywood. Valhalla Rising is available to stream on AMC+ in the U.S.
