Attending the auspicious Academy Award ceremony and being a potential candidate for an Oscar is a dream of most Hollywood celebrities. But surprisingly, the DC actress Amy Adams is not one of them. Despite once coming close to winning an Oscar, Adams was quite happy with losing it.
Amy Adams was once considered a potential candidate for an Oscar after her breakthrough role in Junebug. But unfortunately, she lost the opportunity to take home the priceless statue, to Rachel Weisz. However, quite shockingly, Adams was more than happy to accept her loss, in hindsight.
Amy Adams Once Came Close to Winning an Oscar
Being in the entertainment industry for years, Amy Adams not only secured a lucrative career with her spectacular projects, but also won five Oscar nods for supporting actress, and one for best actress. But unfortunately, Adams failed to impress the jury with her performance every time, to take home the priceless statue.
But don’t hold your breath, for the actress isn’t quite sad with her loss. In fact, Amy Adams was more than happy to lose her first opportunity at the Oscars, to Rachel Weisz. The actress received her first-ever Oscar nomination for her role as Ashley Johnsten in the 2005 feature Junebug.
Although Amy Adams wasn’t the lead in the 2005 film, Junebug became an important milestone for the actress. Further, even director Phil Morrison asserted that the film was only possible to make because of Adams. But at that time the actress didn’t consider herself quite fit for an Oscar win.
Amy Adams Was Happy to Lose The Opportunity
Despite being more than thankful for the attention her role in Junebug was getting, Amy Adams felt, she wasn’t worthy of winning an Oscar. Eventually, no matter what director Phil Morrison had to say about her performance, the actress admitted voting for Rachel Weisz during her interview with The Denver Post.
“I truly hope that whatever greater forces are at work in the universe are occupied with far more important issues than my career. I voted for Rachel Weisz.”
The Mummy actress ended up walking away with the Best Supporting Actress award leaving behind Amy Adams with a nomination. However, Adams was more than happy to have lost the award. She discussed that, at that particular moment, she wasn’t prepared for that level of attention.
“I wasn’t prepared for the kind of attention that would have brought. And I’m terrified of public speaking…I think I’m the only person in Oscar history that looks relieved at the announcement of somebody else’s name.”
After that initial nomination, Amy Adams earned several other Oscar nods and went ahead with her decorated career. But her fans still wonder what would’ve happened if Adams ended up with the award.
