Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, the upcoming action RPG title in the Yakuza series is all set to release early next year. The game is the continuation of the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon and is the eighth title in the long-running Yakuza franchise.
All the previous games in the series allow players to explore multiple open-world locations, and players have loved the series’ mainstay, Kamurocho. Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has now revealed that the map for Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth will be three times larger than its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth Map Is Set to Be Massive
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth features an amazing open world set in the capital of Hawaii, Honolulu City. The developer has revealed that it will be the biggest map in the series and three times larger than the previous title’s Isezaki Ijincho, which is located in Yokohama City. Isezaki Ijincho is the main location in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, other than Kamurocho and Sotenbori, and Isezaki Ijincho is also the main map in the Lost Judgment spin-off.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio took to X/Twitter and revealed the new map of Honolulu City, which takes the series outside of Japan for the first time, and also revealed that the new Honolulu City is going to be triple the size of Isezaki Ijincho, in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which was already very large in comparison to previous games in the series. The rough translation of the tweet read:
The new stage of “Ryu ga Gotoku 8” is “Honolulu City, Hawaii”. A vast new stage that is said to be more than three times the size of Isezaki Ijincho.
The post also revealed several different district locations in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth‘s Honolulu City, including Aloha Beach, the Anaconda Shopping Centre, Waikiki Town, Chinatown, Little Japan, and District 5. Each of these areas in Honolulu City will have several activities for players to engage in. For example, players can swim at Aloha Beach, shop in Waikiki Town, play arcade games at the entertainment arena at the Anaconda Shopping Centre, and more.
The Anaconda Shopping Centre is an entertainment arena and would allow players to engage in several mini-games. There are a total of 20 mini-games confirmed so far in the game, including Karaoke, Darts, Mahjong, Black Jack, Batting Cages, Golf, Poker, Vocational School, Virtua Fighter 3, Sega Bass Fishing, and many more. Since all Yakuza games feature a mafia location, District 5 is described as “illegally occupied” and will serve as the home of the mafia in the game.
The Honolulu city in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth makes sense to be “three times the size of Isezaki Ijincho,” as RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama has already revealed that Infinite Wealth will be a “monster-class game” and will be the longest title to date in the series. Yokoyama stated that players would not be able to complete the game by pulling one or two all-nighters, and it would be bad for their health if they tried to play continuously.
Masayoshi Yokoyama also added that this worries the developers because there might be players who might not bother even picking up the game because of its length, but they are working on it and creating a festive atmosphere around the game. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth will continue the events of its predecessor, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name spin-off.
The main characters of the series, Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga, will be the dual protagonists in the game, and with the largest map so far in the Yakuza series, the game is bound to feature some high-octane action and plenty of activities for players. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth will be launched on January 26, 2024, for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
