Before Mark Ruffalo made it big with his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he would carve out a niche for himself in theatre. That is how his career would begin after all. The Shutter Island star would spend years doing theatre, even going on to perform in some off-Broadway plays. That is how he became the actor he is. Taking a trip down the memory lane to his theatre days in an episode on The Graham Norton Show, he shared an anecdote that would stay with him for long – how he got the best reviews of his life after smoking pot.
Mark Ruffalo has made his mark felt in theatre as well
Mark Ruffalo has done it all when it comes to acting. It was as a teen that he would establish his own Theatre Company. His journey had just begun after all. Before making his mark felt in the film industry, theatre is what kept him going.
One of his most famous performances in a play came in Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth, an off-Broadway that would earn him great renown. That might epitomize the days he spent doing theatre. But that doesn’t mean it were his best. The story behind his best day at theatre is rather wild.

Mark Ruffalo was left ‘high’ and dry by a co-star once
Mark Ruffalo is a household name to say the least. But there was a time that the 13 going on 30 star would have to complete the task of performing onstage after going high. Speaking on Graham Norton Show, he said,
“There was a play that I did where I smoked a joint in the first scene. And of course there was a very naughty young actor that I was in the play with who, on the opening night with all of the critics, he slipped a real joint onto the prop table.”
Before he knew it, he had stepped into trouble.

How smoking pot worked wonders for Mark Ruffalo
The Now You See Me star, not knowing what he was going through was a real blunt, did not stop at just “two puffs”. He and his co-star, who was a newbie to smoking pot, would smoke a giant blunt onstage. And they couldn’t help but feel the impact on their acting.
Continuing his story, he said,
“We smoked a giant blunt onstage. I’m like, ‘Man, I am like fire man. I am feeling it it tonight.”
As it turns out, he didn’t suffer a lot as the result of the prank. Smoking a joint worked him wonders instead, making him stand out as one of the best performers in the play. He said,
“At the end of the play, I got the best reviews of my entire career.”
God works in mysterious ways. Mark Ruffalo’s system works in far more strange ways.
