Whenever a new name steps into the lifestyle business, comparisons are bound to happen with the OG in the game, Martha Stewart. Founder of the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, she rose to prominence after excelling in the segment of lifestyle products in the ’70s and has been synonymous with everything domestic since.
Now, with the Duchess of Sussex set to step into the lifestyle business with her brand American Riviera Orchard, reasonably, Meghan Markle is now being compared to Stewart. But apparently, the TV personality isn’t too enthralled by the matter.
Insider Claims Martha Stewart Feels Insulted Being Compared to Meghan Markle
Similar to Stewart, Meghan Markle is set to launch her own cooking show on Netflix, coinciding with her new brand, which reportedly plans to sell crockery, serving ware, table linens, and dog food.
When Stewart was initially asked about the Duchess of Sussex‘s new business venture, she shared her blessing and gave the advice:
“Produce good products that work and will help the homemaker have a nicer life. That’s what it’s all about.”
However, per recent reports, Martha Stewart seemingly isn’t pleased following constant comparisons with Markle, with a source alleging she can’t wait to celebrate her downfall.
The Insider further claimed (via RadarOnline.com):
“Martha has seen hundreds of Meghan types come and go — and says they all come in with the same self-inflated hype, only to find out it’s a whole new ball game when it comes down to brass tacks. She’s tired of being quizzed by people over how she feels about Meghan’s venture because, honestly, it’s irritating and insulting to her that she’s being compared to a rookie!”
While it can’t be said for certain how much weight these reports hold, this isn’t the first time Stewart has found herself amidst controversy with another celebrity, who delved into the lifestyle business.
Martha Stewart Accused Gwyneth Paltrow for Mimicking Her
Back in 2014, when Gwyneth Paltrow launched her own lifestyle brand, Goop, Martha Stewart reportedly accused the Iron Man star of mimicking her.
She told Vulture:
“She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart! Martha spent decades building her brand from a foundation of raw talent, hands-on hard work and an original vision.”
Only time will tell if Markle’s new expedition in the realm of lifestyle will turn out to be successful or not.
Moreover, it’ll be interesting to see if her planned Netflix show can witness the same level of success as Stewart’s Cooking School.
