Skydance New Media’s World War II Marvel game has finally got a title: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Not only that, it has also got a release window and a first trailer. The game is based on the Marvel superhero characters, Captain America, Black Panther, and two other characters.
Skydance and Marvel Games announced the game back in 2021 (via Deadline) and officially teased in 2022 (via Game Informer). The trailer of the game is rather promising as it sees Captain America and Black Panther in a face-off. This is not the first time the two characters have shared the screen in the Marvel Universe, but this is certainly the first time that they will come together like this.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Will See Captain America and Black Panther in a Face-Off
In 2022, a first look at Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was revealed during the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase at the D23 Expo (via Game Informer). It sees Captain America and Black Panther fighting off a common enemy, the Nazis/Hydra during World War II. The trailer of the game, set in occupied Paris, also shows Hydra’s growing influence in Europe during World War II.
The game will let players be both of these superheroes and two additional heroes Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos and Wakanda spy leader Nanali. While Captain America is Steve Rogers, Black Panther is Azzuri, the grandfather of T’Challa and Shuri.
In the recently released trailer (via YouTube), Rogers and Azzuri take on the Nazis/Hydra, but for different personal reasons. Captain America comes face to face with a roadblock in the form of Black Panther while fighting with the Nazis/Hydra. In classic superhero style, the two heroes begin to fight each other and must sort out their differences before they pursue their joint goal of stopping Hydra.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra- Everything We Know So Far
According to the information available on the official Marvel website, Drew Moerlein stars as Steve Rogers, Khary Payton as Azzuri, Megalyn Echikunwoke as Nanali, and Marque Richardson as Gabriel Jones. Additionally, Lyne Renée will star as the character Julie, and Joel Johnstone as Howard Stark. The game will also feature original music from Grammy Award winner Stephen Barton.
According to The Verge, the game’s description as released by Marvel reads:
“As the game’s narrative unfolds, players will assume the role of four central characters: a young Steve Rogers, AKA Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, a US soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris.”
Players of the game will enjoy becoming these characters in the game, written and directed by Amy Hennig, best known for her work in Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg’s Uncharted.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is slated for release in 2025.
