The fourth and fifth phases of the MCU saw the comic book franchise introduce a variety of characters to the audiences. However, the phases were also marked by the absence of beloved characters such as Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man.
In a recent discussion on X, one fan by the username @samk0006, pointed out that the Multiverse Saga lacked a single compelling lead character. The user cited Iron Man as an example, who served as the de facto lead character of the Infinity Saga. Moreover, fans were deeply invested in Iron Man’s journey as he was the focal point of the franchise’s first three phases.

The user further elaborated on the suggested flaw in the Multiverse Saga by pointing out that general fans are not emotionally connected or simply do not care about some of the newer characters introduced in the fourth and fifth phases of the MCU. As a result, Kevin Feige‘s masterplan for the Multiverse Saga will greatly suffer if the studio does not rectify the situation and choose one hero as the lead character going forward.
Fans Debate Over the MCU’s Main Character After Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man
After the X user pointed out the lack of a clear lead character in the MCU’s fourth and fifth phases, fans quickly jumped into the discussion and debated which characters could be the lead in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
Additionally, @samk0006 stated that Reed Richards could be a good main character given his comic book ties to the Secret Wars storyline. Meanwhile, the user highlighted how Peter Parker / Spider-Man could not be the main character as he has gone back to his street roots and the MCU no longer remembers him.

As the tweets suggest, most fans agreed with the idea that the MCU lacked a clear main character in its recent phases and it could be a major issue in the build-up to the Multiverse Saga’s conclusion.
While most fans suggested Doctor Strange as the main character, the former Master of the Mystic Arts has not been featured in the same capacity as Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man in the first three phases. Similarly, fans made cases for other characters such as Thor, Loki, and the Fantastic Four to become the focal point of the Multiverse Saga but only time will tell if Feige and his team opt for such an approach.
