At Marvel’s Comic-Con presentation in 2022, Kevin Feige announced two Avengers films that would end the current Multiverse Saga of the MCU. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2026 and 2027 respectively. While The Infinity Saga focused on the powers of the Infinity Stone and Thanos’ quest to obtain them, The Multiverse Saga has barely shown what its overarching arc is.
The various films of the Multiverse Saga have shown little to no connections with each other. But with some recent projects like Loki season 2, The Marvels, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, the MCU seems to be slowly building its replacement of the Infinity Stones with various characters.
Marvel Is Slowly Replacing The Infinity Stones With Superheroes
The Multiverse Saga of the MCU is slowly leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. While many of the recent projects of the MCU have little to no connection with each other, it is slowly changing and the overarching arc of the Multiverse saga is becoming clearer.
It seems the MCU is replacing the Infinity Stones which are Time, Power, Space, Mind, Reality, and Soul with various characters. Kevin Feige seems to have indirectly hinted at the identity of these characters in recent or upcoming Marvel films.
Time Stone: Loki
The Time Stone is a powerful Infinity Stone that can reverse events by going back in time. One great example is when Thanos reverses time and gets the Mind Stone from Vision (Scarlet Witch had killed him before) in Avengers: Infinity War. With Loki having mastered the art of time-slipping and literally becoming The God of Narratives, he is the perfect replacement for the time stone in the current Marvel universe.
Reality Stone: Scarlet Witch
Wanda Maximoff got hold of the Darkhold and acquired the true powers of the Scarlet Witch which include the power to alter reality. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she wrecks havoc on the multiverse to change her reality so that she can be with her kids. Even though she seemingly sacrifices herself in the ending, she is the living embodiment of the powers of the reality stone.
Space Stone: America Chavez
The Space Stone enabled an individual to travel to any area or place in the galaxy. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness introduced a more powerful America Chavez who can travel not just any galaxy but through the multiverse. This can be seen as a possible upgrade to the powers of the Space Stone and Chavez becomes the new living embodiment of the stone.
Mind Stone: Reed Richards/Shuri
Shuri is now the smartest individual in the MCU right now after Tony Stark’s demise. With her incredible intellect and her science knowledge, she is literally going to be the brains of the MCU moving forward. With Reed Richards (also known as the smartest man on Earth) coming in Fantastic Four, the two coming together will be the perfect replacement for the human embodiment of the mind stone.
Power Stone: Captain Marvel
Captain Marvel is arguably the most powerful character in the MCU. She can single-handedly destroy waves of enemy spaceships while also possessing incredible superhuman strength and abilities. She can hold herself with someone like Thanos and is not afraid to face any threat. Hence, she is the living embodiment of the Power Stone in the current Marvel universe.
Soul Stone: Adam Warlock
In the comics, Adam Warlock is the protector and guardian of the Soul Stone. But in the films, the Soul Stone has been destroyed by Thanos after his mission is completed (before Adam Warlock’s introduction in the MCU). But he still has a gem on his forehead as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which could be the replacement of the Soul Stone. It remains to be seen how Marvel uses the character in the future.
