Ever since the mind-bending events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been buzzing about what’s next for everyone’s favorite web-slinger. While Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed a new film with Tom Holland is in the works, details are still under wraps. Kevin Feige envisions the upcoming Spider-Man film to delve into a more grounded narrative. The aim is to provide Tom Holland’s Peter Parker with ample space for emotional development, crafting a storyline that allows the audience to connect with the character on a deeper level.
However, it seems there might be a bit of a creative tug-of-war happening behind the scenes. According to writer Daniel Richtman, Sony Pictures, who co-produces the Spider-Man films with Marvel, reportedly has a different vision for the movie. And that is the reason Marvel and Sony are butting heads over the film’s direction.
Sony and Marvel Studios At Odds Over Spider-Man 4 Direction
What Kevin Feige envisioned about Spider-Man 4 does not go align with Sony’s vision. According to reports from industry insider Daniel Richtman (Via Comic Book Movie), Marvel Studios and Sony are at odds regarding Spider-Man 4’s direction.
While Kevin Feige and Tom Holland want to make a more grounded film, Sony wants to make another No Way Home. Sony bets on the nostalgia and multiverse. As per Richtman, Sony wants to bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the fourth Spider-Man film with plans to make it huge. However, Kevin Feige wants Spider-Man 4 to have a more grounded tone.
No Way Home remains the highest-grossing non-Avengers film in the MCU, pulling in over $1.91 billion at the global box office, beating 2018’s Black Panther by nearly $600 million. And Sony wants to recreate this magic by making it a multiverse movie.
Fans, on the other hand, want it to be more grounded saying that Sony’s idea of making the movie would not be the right way to take Spider-Man forward, especially following Spider-Man: No Way Home establishing the foundation for a more relatable narrative. Holland also goes with Marvel’s plan as he does not want to clash with Venom in Spider–Man 4.
Reportedly Both Parties Are In Talks
Amidst what will be the direction of the much-anticipated movie, new reports suggest that Marvel boss Kevin Feige and Sony are having a negotiation over it. Alex P, an insider, reports that they are trying to find a middle ground to carry forward the story. However, there are no official updates as of now regarding that. We will have to wait and see.
Following Holland’s first solo trilogy as Peter Parker, the future’s uncertain for Queen’s wall-crawler. Spider-Man has been part of the MCU since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, thanks to a deal between Disney, Marvel Studios, and Sony.
It’s a tough call for both Marvel Studios and Sony, but there might be a solution to blend both storylines. Nevertheless, Spider-Man fans are in for a wild ride as they continue waiting to see where their favorite web-slinger swings next.
