Marvel Rivals is an upcoming online multiplayer game featuring fan-favorite heroes and villains of the Marvel brand. The gaming community has been waiting for an ambitious project of this caliber and the developers have no intention of dropping the ball after a successful closed beta run.
The game developers have adapted to the demands and trends of modern live service games and showcased countless cosmetic items like outfits and skins, with far more to come. Early playtesters boldly claimed that this ambitious project handled this aspect way better than the game served as the main source of inspiration.
Marvel Rivals Is Already Better Than Other Competitive Multiplayer Games in One Aspect
The developers of NetEase Games are no strangers to online multiplayer games and have enough experience to pull off this massive endeavor. The gaming community was caught off guard after the developers announced their participation in this year’s GamesCom where fans can expect new surprises in Marvel Rivals.
All bets are off with what the developers could potentially share in the event. Some fans expect to see reveals of new characters joining the roster, maybe a new teaser emphasizing the lore and more cosmetic items.
The game hosted an early beta test and a handful of players are confident that this project is a massive improvement by opting for a third-person perspective instead of the traditional first-person shooter.

Cosmetic items like skins and outfits are the latest trend in modern multiplayer games and some fans have expressed their concern that this game would go down the same path as League of Legends and will overwhelm the player base with constant new outfits. Spider-Man is among the fan favorites and is the likely candidate to receive new outfits throughout the game’s run.

Overwatch heavily inspired the game developers and it only featured first-person gameplay. Skins are available for purchase; however, the players will not get their money’s worth if they can only see the hands and not the entire outfit, unlike the third-person perspective NetEase Games decided to run with.
It is not worth the investment if players can only see portions of what they initially paid for. Heroes like the Avengers are known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and each member sports iconic looks and often wears colorful suits and outfits that best represent their beliefs and ideals, something NetEase seems to have realized.
Blizzard Entertainment Could Have Taken Notes From NetEase Games for the Next Overwatch
The third-person point of view will benefit players from a strategic standpoint and increase their awareness of their surroundings in a messy fight. Game developers are exploiting every possible solution to make a buck out of their projects and selling cosmetic items is one of the best and most common solutions.
A game like Marvel Rivals is a perfect opportunity to showcase the different iterations inspired by other mediums like live-action films, television shows, and comic books.
Perhaps Blizzard Entertainment did not go for a third-person perspective since the heroes’ designs are not what the players are after. NetEase Games has the advantage of featuring high-profile characters like the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, and many more for fans to gaze upon, with hundreds of years of cumulative history to pull from and rely on.
It may not mean much to the average player; however, it would be nice to see what they have paid for in all its glory. The Overwatch skins are great in their own right but from a practical standpoint, it is not considered a wise investment for many.
