Marvel Rivals Needs to Avoid Introducing These Overused Marvel Heroes

Marvel Rivals already have plenty characters included, but these should not make the cut for several reasons.

SUMMARY

  • Marvel Rivals is poised to bring new meta to the hero shooter genre.
  • While it already has some top of the list characters, some arent suitable for the fast-paced combat.
  • Heroes like Wolverine, Deadpool, and others are overly used and should seek their place elsewhere.

The number of Marvel Universe characters is vast and ever-expanding as new superheroes are introduced, Nevertheless, it is safe to say that hundreds are the most popular coming from different franchises and mediums. The latest third-person hero shooter Marvel Rivals will introduce only a handful upon launch until it grows into something unlike seen before.

While the developers are sure to bring some of the most familiar faces of the universe, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and many more, there are poster boys and girls that, despite their popularity, shouldn’t be introduced into the game for reasons aplenty.

Marvel Rivals Doesn’t Need These 5 Overused Marvel Heroes

Marvel Rivals is set to take over the hero-shooter extravaganza once it is released. Overwatch was a hit in 2016 and the upcoming title from NetEase builds upon a similar formula with the addition of popular superheroes.

5. Wolverine

Wolverine is the one true star of Marvel. It has become a fan favorite over the years with adamantium claws, regenerative abilities, and combat prowess. Wolverine would match the role of a Duelist in the game, but his melee close combat damage isn’t quite suited for a combat style Marvel Rivals nurtures.

Nevertheless, with his own game in development, Wolverine’s presence in Marvel Rivals will perhaps be a bit redundant and overshadow another character like Namor, who is already in the game and should be given a chance to shine and escape its anti-hero story.

4. Deadpool

Another heavily overused superhero by Marvel that shouldn’t be introduced in Marvel Rivals. Yes, Deadpool could bring some dark humor to the fast-paced combat but does a game like this one need it? Moreover, we have seen enough times him breaking the fourth wall and telling lame jokes in other media.

On the other hand, Rocker Raccoon is the one to go with, as it is a fresh alternative to Deadpool’s chaos.

3. Nick Fury

Nick Fury is everywhere. In every film, series, or comic. His oversaturated presence will certainly push players against choosing him. Moreover, he doesn’t have a place in a third-person shooter like Marvel Rivals and is far more suitable for Marvel Snap.

While his The Unseen form could be something different in the game, he will likely fulfill the Strategist role but this belongs to far superior Loki and even Doctor Strange.

2. She-Hulk

She-Hulk has always been in the shadow of its more powerful cousin, Bruce Banner, or simply the Hulk. She would certainly fill the role of Vanguard in the game, but Marvel has so many other options, including Hulk, who is already a part of the roster, also Colossus could be considered for a Vanguard role.

While she might bring some diversity to the game, the past iterations of video media with the character failed miserably, and a video game won’t change that sentiment.

1. Hawkeye

Hawkeye video game inclusion is a piece of video gaming history. From the Spider-Man: The Video Game released in 1991 to Marvel’s Avengers in 2020, Hawkeye has been a part of more than a dozen titles. It is time for this hero to take some rest.

While he will surely overused for ranged attacks, there is something better in the game already, Luna Snow, who isn’t just a damage dealer but also a healer and as such far superior to Hawkeye. Moreover, Luna is one of the newer heroes and deserves a chance to prove herself worthy of the universe.

Marvel Rivals is currently running an open beta until August 5. While there is no official release date set yet it is expected to release sometime in 2025.

As the game moves towards its launch and beyond, we will likely see many of these popular heroes added to the roster at some point in time and across different timelines.
