During an interview with Fresh Air, Benedict Cumberbatch openly talked about how the world mistreated Alan Turing, one of the brightest minds and mathematicians of the United Kingdom.

“The choice then for men who were arrested and prosecuted for being gay was the choice between two years’ imprisonment or two years’ chemical castration through weekly estrogen injections.

This is less than 100 years ago in a country that had just been liberated from the threat of fascism by one of the very men that they then punished for his sexuality. It’s barbaric, it’s frightening and sadly it’s not a history lesson — it’s something that we need to be equally wary of in our current climate of intolerance.”

He went on to add that even though he had such a contribution to the country, the way they treated him back was very poor. It’s very true that Turing helped the country in many ways, as one of the leading scientists of the country, he developed the country in numerous ways, including fighting against the Germans by cracking their enigma.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s The Imitation Game Is a Masterpiece

Based on the 1980s biography Alan Turing: The Enigma, the historical drama starring Keira Knightley and Benedict Cumberbatch, The Imitation Game was released in 2014. Alan Turing was a British mathematician, computer scientist, and codebreaker who was portrayed by Cumberbatch in the film. The movie shows Alan Turing decoding signals from Germany that were encrypted during World War II while working for the British government. Later in the movie, it was revealed that Alan Turing was homosexual but it was not registered as so, the movie follows the life of the enigma and how things revolved around him.
