Deadpool 3 will be Marvel’s only theatrical release in 2024, with no other films scheduled until 2025. Deadpool will be the first feature film exclusively focused on mutants after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox. While Professor X and Beast have made extended cameos in the MCU, Deadpool 3 will serve as the first project that properly brings the mutants into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool 3 will feature Hugh Jackman, once again picking up the mantle of Wolverine. This will be the first time that the character will be returning to the role after announcing his retirement since the release of 2017’s Logan. However, a theory suggests that Wolverine in Deadpool 3 will be more powerful than all his previous incarnations.
Wolverine grows stronger every time he takes damage
When Wolverine first appeared in X-Men, Hugh Jackman did not have much time to prepare for the role, given that he was replacing Dougray Scott, who had already signed a deal but had to back out due to conflicts with Mission: Impossible 2. Jackman was cast three weeks into shooting after auditioning for the role. This caused the Wolverine in the X-Men film to look less imposing as compared to his later versions, and a theory has come along to provide some narrative explanation for the appearance.
According to the theory, Wolverine’s body repairs itself better after all the damage that the character takes, making him buffer in each successive film. Given that the Wolverine in Deadpool 3 would probably have suffered through everything in the X-Men trilogy and then some, it is safe to assume that the character will be incredibly strong, stronger than his previous iterations in the upcoming mutant movie.
Deadpool 3 is a huge deal for the MCU
Deadpool 3 will be a very important film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both inside and outside the narrative of the MCU. This will be the first feature-length engagement of the franchise with Marvel’s Mutant population, with arguably two of its biggest stand-alone Mutant characters: Wolverine and Deadpool. Deadpool 3 will not only set up the Mutant population to make its debut in the MCU, but it will also work towards introducing elements of the universe that will have longstanding consequences for the franchise.
Deadpool 3 is important for the MCU from a business point of view too. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a few dud years in the wake of Avengers: Endgame. Deadpool has been one of the most lucrative franchises for Marvel, and will serve as the first mature theatrical outing for the MCU. Being the only release for the franchise in 2024, Deadpool 3 will make or break what the MCU looks like going forward, especially given the fact that it deals with fan-favorite characters like Deadpool and Wolverine.
