Reports have suggested that the movie will follow the events of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and see several heroes from prior phases returning to fight against a cosmic threat to rival Thanos. There hasn’t been much information about Avengers: Secret Wars shared by the studios but a recent fan theory suggests that a huge Marvel Legacy team up.

Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars to unite non-MCU movie characters to top Avengers: Endgame?

According to reports by CBR, Disney+ decided to create a category for movies that are not directly related to MCU but are the adaptations of the Marvel comics or simply features of Marvel characters as Marvel Legacy. The streaming channel has also had these movies categorized in a watch order for the fans to watch them according to the universe timeline, by phase or pick and choose.

Currently, there are only seven movies under Marvel Legacy; five movies that are a part of the X-Men series, 2005’s Fantastic Four, and 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot. The reports suggested that rebranding these movies under Marvel Legacy is pretty accurate as it comes from the long-running comics publisher. However, a fan theory pointed out that these non-MCU movie characters could feature in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars and bring the multiverse saga to top Avengers: Endgame.

The theory mentioned that Secret Wars could actually see characters including Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, and the original Fantastic Four cast coming together to form a huge Legacy team-up to fight against the said cosmic threat. A report by ScreenRant suggested that these fan favorites characters, if brought together for Secret Wars, could not only interact with other MCU characters but also create an interesting team against the threat.

Fans loved Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man’s appearance in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. If they are expected to appear in Secret Wars, fans point out that this is going to give them a chance to find out what it is like to fight with the Avengers. In fact, the theory also suggested that Ben Affleck’s Daredevil could also make a return and potentially let him interact with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil; thanks to Multiverse Saga which is going to give fans a treat for life.

However, there hasn’t been any information disclosed for the Secret Wars project but fans have been curious about how the culmination of Phases 4,5 & 6 will take place. It is indeed an interesting theory to bring Legacy characters to interact with MCU characters and team up to create a huge Legacy team and this could definitely end up reaching higher than Avengers: Endgame.

Kevin Feige to reboot MCU with Avengers: Secret Wars?

According to the tell-all book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios via The Direct, Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige hated the fact that the studios did not have much control of the movies before MCU came into play. He quoted;

“We suggested but they didn’t listen. We didn’t have the control. I hated that.”

Writer Craig Kyle understands Feige’s frustration and shared,

“From the moment I touched down in Marvel, Kevin had been telling Avi Arad we have to get the rights back. Avi was in a situation where he represented all of Marvel. He was the face of Marvel Studios. Kevin was in there to make great movies. That could never be a guarantee until we could actually control the process.”

There has been a lot of chatter about how Kevin Feige is now looking forward to rebooting the MCU with Avengers: Secret Wars as a tactic to manage the massive machine that he has built over the years.

The rebranding of the non-MCU characters as Marvel Legacy and bringing them back for Secret Wars could be one of the ways to not only softly reboot the brand but also bring in different storylines and refresh characters for fans. The anticipation for the movie is at its peak, especially with fan theories sounding interesting.

Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for a May 2027 release.
