Marvel’s Echo has joined the category of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the release of the latest series on Disney+ and Hulu. As the titular protagonist of Marvel’s Echo, Maya Lopez, also known as Echo, is portrayed by Alaqua Cox as an anti-hero with a brief but action-packed narrative and a well-developed MCU journey.
In the Hawkeye series from 2021, Maya Lopez makes her MCU debut as a secondary antagonist who has a grudge against Hawkeye but later finds out that Kingpin aka Wilson Fisk is the real enemy. The series focuses on Maya’s journey and her past, connecting her to her Native American roots, and embracing her community.
However, the major point of interest about the character is her abilities and her powers. Initially, her powers just involve being able to copy others’ fighting skills and movements and use them against the enemy. However, as the series proceeds, she finds new abilities that anime fans believe are a rip-off from the popular superhero anime series My Hero Academia’s character All Might.
Maya’s Superpowers in Marvel’s Echo
Echo could initially imitate any physical activity she saw, from martial arts and weaponry to ballet and music performances. She can imitate the fighting maneuvers of stronger opponents. But in the series, her abilities truly expand to a cosmic level, connecting her Choctaw ancestry to the creation myth.
Echo now alludes to Maya’s extended matrilineal lineage, which gives her her power, rather than the mimic abilities that Echo possesses in the comic books. Although the powers are diverse, they are rooted in the community, much like Maya’s Choctaw upbringing. When she activates them, all of her ancestors surround her and provide her with a variety of superhuman abilities.
Echo gains improved strength, durability, speed, endurance, and aim. She can also use vibrations to her advantage by turning them into weapons. Also, she can use healing abilities that were inherited from her mother. These abilities were also seen being used by All Might and share a great resemblance to One For All.
Maya’s Abilities Are A Rip-off From All Might’s One For All
Because of his quirk, All Might was able to accumulate a vast amount of raw power that greatly increased all of his physical prowess to a superhuman degree, enabling him to accomplish incredible feats of strength, speed, agility, and durability. All Might was regarded as the most powerful person in the world because of his mastery of One For All.
One for All was a kind of connection set between its previous users and the current user and grants them the ability to use their quirks too. This ability was later passed on to Izuku Midoriya, by All Might as the hope for the future. He can inherit any quirk of the previous users of the power giving him a variety of abilities.
This power is extremely similar to that of Maya’s abilities in Echo. Both of them have superhuman abilities like improved strength, speed, agility, and more and also, and they are granted the abilities of their ancestors. This has made anime fans feel that Echo’s new powers are ripped off from All Might.
