Kevin Feige has a lot on his plate right now as Marvel desperately needs a bonafide hit to restore the faith of fans and audiences. Additionally, the recent firing of Jonathan Majors after his court case put a huge dent in their plans of making his character Kang the big bad of the Multiverse Saga. The big question is what will Feige and Marvel do now?
While they can recast the character and still move on with their plans, it does not seem like they are going forward with that anymore. According to a popular scooper, the studio is instead focusing on making Secret Wars the grand spectacle event of the current saga and slowly moving away from the Kang storyline.
Marvel Reportedly Pivoting to Secret Wars and Making it a Grand Two-Part Film
The MCU is currently at its worst phase as many of its projects have failed to connect with audiences and The Marvels became the studio’s first box office bomb. The recent firing of Jonathan Majors also came during this struggling phase and Kevin Feige has to come up with a new direction for the MCU as Kang is unlikely to be a part of the current narrative.
The discourse among fans now has been about the course in which the MCU will go after all these hiccups. According to popular scooper Jeff Sneider, the studio is now focused on making Secret Wars their main priority and is planning big things around the highly anticipated title.
Sneider further revealed that Marvel already planned to pivot away from the Kang storyline before Majors’ verdict (due to the underwhelming reception from audiences). He claimed the studio is determined to make Secret Wars “a giant five-hour movie with a year-long intermission”
With the previously planned Avengers: The Kang Dynasty now only being referred to as Avengers 5, the makers have ample time to come up with a compelling narrative if this is indeed their plan moving forward. The film is planned for a 2026 release, and thus, they can take their time in building the narrative leading up to the film.
Kevin Feige Does Not Want to Undo Impactful Tony Stark Death By Reviving Him
Robert Downey Jr.’s profound sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame is arguably the defining moment of the MCU and ended the Infinity Saga on a glorious note. While fans have been clamoring for a return of the character in some form, Kevin Feige is determined to not undo the magic of that moment by reviving him unnecessarily.
In a Vanity Fair cover story about Downey Jr., Feige claims that the studio will never dare to touch that magical moment and undo it only because of fan demand. The studio head also reveals that a lot of hard work has been put in to arrive at that moment and reviving him will be a disservice to everyone’s efforts He said,
“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”
Downey Jr. has already gone on to do great things after his tenure in the MCU. He had a great 2023, with his performance in Oppenheimer receiving rave reviews from critics and making him a major awards contender.
