The Madame Web movie featuring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney is set to release later this month on Valentine’s Day. While many are expecting this project to bomb, it’s the first Sony-Verse Spider-Man movie to feature heroic protagonists instead of the anti-hero angle like in Venom and Morbius

As a character, Madame Web is usually involved in multiverse storylines. You might know her from Spider-Man: The Animated Series or Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Bringing in multiple Spider-People to eliminate the threat on the multiverse timeline, she has psychic abilities that allow her to see into the future and pull Spider-People from different multiverses.

If you 100%’d Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, you might remember a mission involving an easter egg where a Spider-Verse character appeared. Because she was cut from the final movie, imagine if the new Madame Web film made a cameo instead?

What Could’ve Been: Madame Web in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Playing through Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there’s a side mission involving Spider-Bots. If you found all 42, you would unlock a final mission featuring a cameo.

The character, Delilah, would have a chat with Spider-Man before disappearing back into the portal. She was supposed to make an appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse but was sadly cut from the final film.

Because of her exclusion, many fans were confused by this character and had no idea who she was. What if there was an original Madame Web cutscene featuring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, and their other co-stars?

Obviously, Insomniac Games had the intention from the beginning to have a Spider-Verse character appear. The entire Spider-Bots mission has the Spider-Verse aesthetic with the portals and colorful pulse.

Spider-Bots featuring Anya Corazon and Spider-Woman appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which are two characters who will be in the Madame Web film. Because Madame Web herself does not have Spider-Bot, wouldn’t it be funny to Dakota Johnson’s version of the character collect these from our Spider-Men?

The Insomniac Games Spider-Man has already appeared in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Multiverse and other media crossovers are nothing new for the PlayStation Studios developer.

If Sony wanted to push Madame Web’s marketing more and had Insomniac Games put a Madame Web cameo here, it would work. The titular character has a history with the multiverse and slotting in Sydney Sweeney/Dakota Johnson here would be jarring but a fun easter egg nevertheless.

Maybe Sony did not think Madame Web would be done in time for a February release date and instead allowed Insomniac Games to use a character from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the project. Or to not spoil what’s to come in the upcoming film.

If that’s the case, they could have had Dakota Johnson/Sydney Sweeney do the cameo not in their Spider costumes. The easter egg could be an original scene exclusive to the game. A funny gag scene that’s not too serious but rewarding/memorable for the player experience.
