Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released nearly a year ago and the gaming community has since recovered from the emotional turmoil and is ready for more content. Unfortunately, the game developers never made promises or even entertained the idea of an expansion leaving fans disappointed even more after months of radio silence.

The original game was a superhero masterpiece and the game developers extended the story with a series of expansions called The City That Never Sleeps, and it was a perfect holdoff until the next major project. Fans likely assumed that the same treatment would be given to the sequel.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Should Dial Back on the Demand for a Story Expansion

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has been highly successful with overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Sony had a strong output of first-party exclusives from the previous console generation and is eager to ride the same lightning of success for the PlayStation 5 lifecycle. The studio suffered from a terrible cyberattack that leaked all plans and sensitive personnel information, and among those leaks was a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC involving Tombstone.

However, nothing was set in stone and things could be changed. Game development is not for the faint of heart and can be a cut-throat business. Not everything will go as planned and Insomniac Games did not anticipate suffering a hack of this magnitude.

This is where the gaming community should be more open-minded and exercise patience, not pestering the game developers for an unannounced story expansion.

The gaming community is a tough crowd to please and can be entitled to the most part. The recent patches inadvertently reveal plans for a potential expansion. However, the developers did not publicly discuss nor entertain the possibility of an expansion, and these leaked plans could have been moved indefinitely or scrapped.

The developers did what they could regarding post-launch support and released a New Game Plus mode and a new batch of cosmetic items instead of story content. This may not be the content the player base is after but it is still worth applauding despite the recent problems the developers encountered.

Fans Should Accept the Possibility of the Lack of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC in the Coming Months

It is worth noting that the game developers are reportedly all hands on deck on Marvel’s Wolverine, which takes place within the same universe. Despite all the hacks and cyberattacks, the developers were pleased to announce that the game development is going well even after early gameplay builds leaked online months ago.

PlayStation could have asked the developers to leave the project and shift their focus to something else. The game ended on a positive note leaving the fates of certain characters ambiguous for the most part, even Yuri Lowenthal has no idea where the next chapter will take Peter next.

Insomniac Games has been through enough and the fans are not making it any better if they asking for something they never promised. Trust and respect goes both ways. Perhaps an expansion is still possible but it is behind schedule. The sequel was great and could benefit from a DLC but the developers have the final say.
