Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched last October and was a massive success for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games, and fans patiently waited for an update that allowed New Game Plus and other quality-of-life improvements. Insomniac Games has delivered more than what they promised, as players discovered a development game menu and uncovered secrets, including a DLC.

The newest update features New Game+, which enables them to replay the story with all their hard-earned gear and equipment, as well as cosmetic items. All of these were demands for quite a while, and the fans got them and then some. Somehow the development game menu was also made available inadvertently, revealing more content involving the Beetle for a future expansion.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 DLC Leaked… By Insomniac?

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 patch 1.002.000 gave fans a surprise they didn't ask for, and another headache for the developer.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 patch 1.002.000 gave fans a surprise they didn’t ask for.

Details about the reformed villain, Tombstone and his daughter are the focus of this upcoming DLC. Perhaps it will be another scenario like the original title that had three post-launch story chapters that will be released a few months apart, and the details match with the leaked information last year.

The ending of the sequel was as open-ended as it could be, with an obvious sequel that closes the trilogy as well as opportunities to explore other characters like Miles and Venom.

Through a development game menu, players could access some hidden information that was not meant for the public. Insomniac has since put out a hotfix for this.

Insomniac Can’t Catch a Break

After being snubbed at The Game Awards, and the cyberattacks from a ransomware group, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is left to picking up the pieces.

The hype for the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man was extremely high. Given that the first game was a technical triumph and a gift to the fans of the character, Insomniac did their best with the sequel. Although some fans were quite unsatisfied, it was still among Sony’s heavy hitters last year. Despite the ending, there is still more to come for both Peter and Miles.

As of February 4, 2024, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold over 10 million units, which is an incredible feat. Perhaps there will be downloadable story content down the road that features Tombstone and Beetle and will be a shorter story to help expand the lore even more, and despite all the leaks and problems that the studio has internally, they will be resolved promptly and in a fashion that resembles Spider-Man’s resilience.

Insomniac Games went through a devastating phase where their hard work was stolen and attacked, the world wasn’t meant to see that aspect of game development. Maybe plans were changed throughout this debacle that led to cancellations and whatnot, but one thing is certain: the team is passionate about delivering a great superhero story and gaming experience all in one package.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is undeniably a success in many aspects, but it is the people who judged their unfinished work that have failed.
