One of the biggest and most popular tropes that is currently circulating within many industries is the idea of multiverses, and Spider-Man is no different. With the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home, Madame Web, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and so much more, it makes sense that future games included within this franchise would follow suit.
In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this feature had already been teased with a side mission that tasked players with searching for items that came from across the Spider-Verse, but according to some recent leaks, that wouldn’t have been the last we would have seen of the multiverse in the Spider-Man games.
In Another Universe, We Could Have Received This Cancelled Spider-Man Game, but Sadly, It Wasn’t This One
Whether you are sick of hearing about multiverses or are excited to see more, the now-cancelled Spider-Man: The Great Web would have been filled with a Spider-Verse unlike anything we have seen before.
This game would have included some of the most intricate storylines, detailed character designs, unique locations, and so much more, but sadly, Insomniac Games and Sony had other plans for this highly ambitious project.
Since many Spider-Man projects were beginning to converge on this Spider-Verse idea while bringing all of the different media together into one solid prospect, this game would have been the culmination of that work, as it would have brought with it a rather fun way to expand the characters we already know or may want to know into something amazing.
Games, Movies, and TV Shows Wouldn’t Have Been the Only Media That Spider-Man: The Great Web Could Have Used
When it comes to Spider-Man, there has been decades worth of media that Spider-Man: The Great Web could have taken inspiration from. Whether it be the original comic books, the animated series, the video games, or even the movies, there would have been plenty to choose from.
Throughout the trailer that has now been leaked, there were even glimpses of different characters, locations, and even comic covers that the developers were already taking inspiration from, as there was a cartoonish world, a monochrome world, and so much more.
Understandably, these locations would have likely been mission-oriented and would have rotated throughout the multiple seasons that the developers had planned, but the fact that these settings were already thought of and developed at least partially for a trailer shows the amount of attention Insomniac Games gave the game before its eventual cancellation.
Along with the different locations that players could explore, there would have also been plenty of different customization options for players to choose from within the game that were heavily inspired by the Spider-Verse, and from such a short glimpse, we can already see that a lot of effort was put into each costume.
