Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may not have received the recognition Insomniac Games would have expected from the highly-anticipated sequel. The introduction of Venom and Kraven the Hunter in the franchise brought much-needed freshness after the webhead had already dealt with the sinister six.
Now a leak has revealed that Venom wasn’t the only planned Symbiote for the sequel. Late last year, a Venom spin-off came to light from the massive Insomniac Games leaks. All of this now indicates the other Symbiotes could appear in either the spin-off or the next Spider-Man game.
Leaks Reveal Symbiote Bosses Cut From Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
As with recent PlayStation titles ported to PC, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also expected to get a PC port either later this year or early next year. The previous two titles were massively well-received as both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales were only improved with better visuals and graphics compared to the respective original versions on the PlayStation consoles.
While there are no concrete announcements or predictions for a PC port for the sequel in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, a fresh leak from the PC build of the game has revealed the presence of all of the Life Foundation Symbiotes that were left unused in the final cut of the sequel.
A few spoilers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 follow here.
The Symbiotes mentioned in the leak include Phage, Lasher, Agony, and Riot. The leaks also indicate just how big a role the Life Foundation could have played in the game. Also revealed was Venom’s introduction in the sequel was planned for as early as Act 2 of the story, based on “separation anxiety”.
The sequel did not just feature Venom as the only antagonist, however, as Kraven the Hunter also made his debut in the franchise. While Venom eventually kills Kraven the Hunter towards the end of the game, the Venom symbiote itself gets destroyed by Peter Parker in the climax. So, how this will pan out in the Venom spin-off is, for now, anybody’s guess.
Fans React to the Leaks
On a Reddit discussion about the leaked content, one fan replied how the game should have tried to include the Symbiotes and could have been pushed to a later date rather than have the Symbiotes discarded. Several others chimed in with the theories of them being included in a future DLC for the game.
One other fan mentioned how it was clear that the final act of the game felt rather rushed. While there were glimpses of Scream and several Symbiote infections seen through the civilians in the game, the introduction of the rest of the Symbiotes could have extended and added an extra act in the game.
Bryan Intihar from Insomniac Games also revealed that the game itself was not about to hit the 2023 deadline, without forcing several cuts. Tony Todd who voiced Venom in the game had also come on record to reveal that a massive part of his work for the game was cut from the final game.
Fans will now wait to see if the game does get a DLC with more Symbiotes in action or if the game takes a completely different turn in the DLC if one does come out. The PC port for the sequel was also leaked to be coming out early next year and fans will be hoping to get an official announcement about it soon.
