Insomniac Games, the studio behind the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, and some of the most popular titles in recent years, has made it clear that it’s not working on a remaster of their 2014 hit, Sunset Overdrive.
The studio is mostly known for its Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank Games. Instead of these franchises, the studio is fully immersed in developing Wolverine, which is set to release sometime in 2025.
Insomniac’s Current Focus is on Marvel’s Wolverine

Replying to a fan on X, Insomniac Games reconfirmed that its primary focus is on Wolverine, a highly anticipated game that’s got fans buzzing with massive excitement ever since its announcement all the way back in 2021.

The studio aims to bring the same level of polish and engaging storytelling seen in its Spider-Man series to Wolverine. The game is set to feature a darker tone, aiming for an M-rating, and it’s expected to dive deep into Logan’s gritty and violent world, featuring a few X-Men members as well.
The creative team behind this project includes veterans from Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, ensuring that the game is in good hands with some talented developers. The studio has been growing rapidly since being acquired by Sony, which has given it the resources to work on multiple big projects simultaneously.
Despite this, its decision to prioritize Wolverine over a Sunset Overdrive remaster is rather obvious, and just shows how important this new project is to the studio and to the fans. Wolverine is also set to be a significant leap in terms of narrative and exploration.
Developers have hinted at exploring Wolverine’s character in depth, creating an emotional narrative. This means we can expect a game that not only looks great but also feels substantial in its storytelling and character development, featuring his relationships with other prominent characters from the comics.
Sunset Overdrive Remaster is On Hold for Good Reason

While Sunset Overdrive fans might feel a bit disappointed, its focus on Wolverine is understandable. It was a vibrant and chaotic game that earned a cult following, but the studio has set its sights on building a universe that could potentially tie into its other Marvel games, including Spider-Man.
According to the leak from last year, the studio also has an X-Men game in the pipeline for later on, as well as a Venom spin-off that was supposed to release before Wolverine, but plans might have changed since the hack.
By focusing its efforts on Wolverine instead, the studio makes sure that the game will meet its own high expectations and deliver a polished experience that also continues to build upon its Marvel universe. While a remaster of the game would be fun, the prospect of a new, high-quality Wolverine game is just far more exciting.
Given its track record, trusting Insomniac with Wolverine feels like a safe bet. The studio’s recent successes with Marvel’s Spider-Man 1&2, Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have set a high bar, and its dedication to making Wolverine as good as possible is exciting. The potential for crossovers between Spider-Man and Wolverine adds even more excitement for fans.
