In his acceptance speech, Jonathan Bailey dedicated his Critics Choice Award to the LGBTQ+ community. He shared that the series served as an education, showing that the LGBTQ+ community has always existed in the past. He thanked all those who fought for a better life for men like him today. Bailey expressed pride in winning an award that told their story. Bailey shared in his acceptance speech (via Daily Mail):

“For many, it’s an education, but for us, it’s a vital truth. This series is a much-needed reminder that LGBTQ+ people have always existed, mostly hidden. They have always been fighting for an easier life for the generations that followed. So I thank those who came before me, who created a world where I can stand here today and win an award for telling their story.”

Bailey further added that the series also encourages people to profess their love before it’s too late. He addressed his Fellow Travelers team, LGBTQ+ people who lost their lives and loves in the 1980s and ‘90s, and LGBTQ+ individuals living in a bigoted community in his dedication.
