1. Max Payne and Mona Sax: Max Payne 2

In the dark underbelly of New York City, Max Payne does his job as honestly as he can. This kind of dedication to one’s work can only come from a dead loved one. Max Payne had two of those: his child and his wife. For a man so broken, it becomes pretty hard to even find a reason to smile.

But Max Payne got one better; he got a person to care for once again. Things are not so simple, though; she is a murder suspect, and a relationship with her would force Max to put “its complicated” on his social media profile. Still, every man needs a respite, and that’s what he gets from her.

2. Nicole and Isaac: Dead Space

Survival horror games can be plenty gory. Gamers would find themselves struggling against all odds to make sure they survive the ordeal developers have thrown them into. Dead Space is no different; in fact, it takes the grim nature of these dark horror games to the next level. But there’s a speck of heart-shaped hope on USS Ishimura too.

Protagonist Isaac is no doubt struggling with a bunch of enemies all over Ishimura, but he is doing all that for his better half, Nicole. In fact, he only came to Ishimura to meet her, as they had been far from each other for a very long time. A touching story indeed.

3. James and Mary: Silent Hill 2

Once again, a survival horror world becomes a place of romance. Just like Isaac in Dead Space, James Sunderland too travels to a new location to find his loved one. It’s his wife, Mary; she asks him to visit her in the town of Silent Hill. The only thing is that she has been dead for three years; then who sent that letter? Lovestruck James decides to travel to Silent Hill and find out on his own.

His journey does not end there, though. He has to fight through numerous enemies and come face-to-face with the darkness that has festered inside him all these years. Silent Hill 2 is one of the best representations of how a loved one’s death affects someone.

4. Mono and Wander: Shadow of the Colossus

This game starts with a wide shot of a person carrying the love of his life in his arms. As he carries her to a huge temple and places her on its altar, he is asked for one simple thing. Kill sixteen colossal beasts, and she would live yet again. As he goes on a journey to find and vanquish these relentless beasts, one cannot help but wonder: how deep is the love between these two that he is prepared to do this much just to get her back?

Fans are never shown any backstory; they are never shown clippings of those days past. They just get this grim opening, and they get to kill those beasts. Does she live, though? Well, it’s up to the fans of the game to play and find out.

5. Geralt and Yennefer: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

These two are nothing but two seasoned lovers. They had seemingly fallen apart; they had not seen each other for a while at the start of this game. But this does not matter; the moment they meet, their love rekindles. After all, nothing brings people together better than trying to save someone they care for a lot.

Fans see Geralt and Yennefer once again ride the unicorn of love in The Witcher 3. This game no doubt has many more romance options for Geralt, but nothing is half as satisfying as Geralt and Yennefer’s angle; they just belong together.

This is the list of five of the best couples in video games one would ever see. So just go ahead and give these games a go and see if you agree.
