It’s his wife, Mary; she asks him to visit her in the town of Silent Hill. The only thing is that she has been dead for three years; then who sent that letter? Lovestruck James decides to travel to Silent Hill and find out on his own.
His journey does not end there, though. He has to fight through numerous enemies and come face-to-face with the darkness that has festered inside him all these years. Silent Hill 2 is one of the best representations of how a loved one’s death affects someone.
4. Mono and Wander: Shadow of the Colossus
This game starts with a wide shot of a person carrying the love of his life in his arms. As he carries her to a huge temple and places her on its altar, he is asked for one simple thing. Kill sixteen colossal beasts, and she would live yet again. As he goes on a journey to find and vanquish these relentless beasts, one cannot help but wonder: how deep is the love between these two that he is prepared to do this much just to get her back?
Fans are never shown any backstory; they are never shown clippings of those days past. They just get this grim opening, and they get to kill those beasts. Does she live, though? Well, it’s up to the fans of the game to play and find out.
5. Geralt and Yennefer: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
These two are nothing but two seasoned lovers. They had seemingly fallen apart; they had not seen each other for a while at the start of this game. But this does not matter; the moment they meet, their love rekindles. After all, nothing brings people together better than trying to save someone they care for a lot.
