James Gunn’s DCU aims to bring back the evil femme fatale Poison Ivy to the world of live-action movies. Poison Ivy, a nemesis of Batman, is an ecoterrorist with complicated morals. The character’s last appearance in a live-action film was in 1997’s Batman & Robin, played by Uma Thurman.

While DCU’s castings are still a topic of speculation among fans, various actors have expressed their interest in different roles. One such actress who has shown a keen interest in playing the character is Katee Sackhoff.

Katee Sackhoff has previously voiced the role of Poison Ivy in the animated DC movie Batman: The Long Halloween. The Battlestar Galactica actress also appeared in The Flash series as Amunet Black. Sackhoff is no stranger to major franchises as she also currently portrays Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian, within the Star Wars Universe.

With the DCU exploring new themes and new characters, the Longmire actress shared her interest in playing Poison Ivy in a Batman film. However, Sackhoff is well aware of the fact that Karen Gillan is also eyeing the same role and has a stronger chance of landing the role. The Halloween: Resurrection actress admitted:

“No, I haven’t [talked to James Gunn]. Listen, I saw Karen Gillan wants to play her, too. And, like, she’s got a closer ‘in’ than I do, so I feel like that’s a given. I feel like I’ve got no horse in that race if Karen wants to play that character, but God, I love her. I can’t be mad at her.”

Karen Gillan definitely holds an advantage considering her connection with James Gunn through Marvel projects. Gillan played Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy series directed by the DC CEO. But, doors are still open for Katee Sackhoff to bring the wicked character to life on screen.

Katee Sackhoff Could Still Play The Live-Action Poison Ivy

Karen Gillan is also gunning for the role

Katee Sackhoff remains hopeful for the Poison Ivy role despite not considering herself to be in direct competition with Karen Gillan. Earlier, the two actresses worked together in the 2013 horror film, Oculus. Sackhoff played the mother of the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actress, which the Another Life actress suggests could happen again with Poison Ivy:

“She’s fantastic, and I love her dearly, so I still would love to, for sure. I think that maybe I can play Poison Ivy’s mom. I can play Karen’s mom again. We can just do that again, and we can both play Poison Ivy. Like, different versions, maybe. You never know.”

It is expected that Poison Ivy will debut in DCU’s upcoming Batman film, The Brave and the Bold. Fans speculate that the film might show an older version of Bruce Wayne fighting crimes alongside his son, Damian. If this is true, the Riddick actress’s age might make her a fitting choice over Gillan who is seven years younger than Sackhoff.

Also, Katee Sackhoff has opportunities to pursue the role in DC’s parallel Batman universe created by Matt Reeves. The Batman released in 2022 has two planned sequels and three spin-off series, and the chances for Sackhoff are plenty in this universe.
