Life is a game, and we all play it. Just like life, the highly competitive Hollywood box office gets two huge competitors every year that try and make their stand as the greatest existing franchise. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe are who we’re talking about, and the battle has been going on for more than a decade.

This rivalry has never seen any end to it, and it doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon- after all, these two franchises have the most well-known superhero characters in their rosters. In their latest round of battle at the box office, Marvel seems to have fared pretty badly but DC isn’t doing too well either.

Marvel’s Ant-Man 3 Isn’t Doing Too Good, And DC Fans Are Rejoicing

When Black Adam was released in 2022 to an audience with high expectations, it failed to deliver on all fronts. Dwayne Johnson’s enthusiasm in promoting the popular antihero character (as well as playing the character itself) was quite impressive, earning news headlines documenting his efforts all throughout 2022.

Critics were quite neutral about the DCU release, however, its box office performance has been put up for debate. While it does break some records, Black Adam was considered a box office bomb by many publications which factored in external costs- like the amount that went into marketing and distribution.

So it would be quite ironic for DCU fans to laugh at the ongoing state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which hasn’t fared as expected at the box office. And to be fair, the MCU has had its share of successful blockbusters that have grossed billions in earnings, something that DCU fans cannot flaunt (except Aquaman).

As reported by DiscussingFilm on Twitter, the first entry into the 5th Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is “looking to have the worst second-weekend decline ever for a superhero movie that opened to $100M+”

This fact is worrying for Marvel fans, but DC fans have instead taken this opportunity to poke fun at their fellow rivals-

Marvel’s Ant-Man 3 Set To Fare Even Worse Than Ant-Man At The Box Office

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is quite unlucky. It was released against the backdrop of complaints from many MCU fans who were fed up with the same formula being used for multiple major movies in the franchise (related to “superhero fatigue”).

Even the critics are criticizing the movie for having no other depth than simply introducing Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror into the billion-dollar franchise. Jeff Loveness would be the main culprit here, but there’s another path the movie’s commercial performance is taking it to, and it could be very embarrassing if it comes true.

Ant-Man 3 has earned about $134 million in domestic revenue and $264 million worldwide. While it would rely on the Chinese market to earn good numbers, even there the movie has opened with only $19 million- a stark contrast from the first movie that earned $106 million from the country.

The first movie made $519 million, and its sequel made $622 million worldwide. But the third installment in the Paul Rudd-starring movie series is slated for a mere $350 million ever after the second weekend of release, and that’s not even close to the first movie!
