The Australian native, Ben Mendelsohn, who dominated Hollywood with his villain and criminal roles, is now making headlines for his desire to reassociate with Marvel. Previously playing the role of a Skrull – Talos, disguised as R. Keller in Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Secret Invasion, Mendelsohn is now willing to give a shot at playing Victor Von Doom.
If given an opportunity, Ben Mendelsohn would like to return to the MCU as the traditional Fantastic Four villain who rules over the fictional country of Latveria. Now it’s a matter of time until Marvel Studios responds to his desire. But as far as the fandom is concerned, it seems, the MCU casting Mendelsohn might jeopardize its biggest villain after Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.
Ben Mendelsohn Would Like to Play Doctor Doom
Apart from his antagonistic roles that dominated Hollywood, Ben Mendelsohn is known to his Marvel fans for his role as the Skrull, Talos. Appearing in major MCU flicks like Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Secret Invasion, where he disguised as R. Keller, Mendelsohn donned a negative role.
Now, after months since the end of his role as Talos in Secret Invasion, Ben Mendelsohn is making headlines for his desire to reappear in the MCU. Speaking with GQ, the Aussie actor revealed that he would like a shot at playing Victor Von Doom, aka, Doctor Doom. If given an opportunity to nab a secondary role in the MCU, Mendelsohn would be happy to play the Fantastic Four villain.
“I would almost give my eyes and teeth to play Doctor Doom. I think Doctor Doom is the great unread Marvel character that could and should be done.”
Given that Doctor Doom is now being considered to turn into a major villain in future MCU installments, casting Ben Mendelsohn might have its effects. Although the Aussie actor is known for offering riveting performances as villains, his appearance in the MCU as Doctor Doom might not be the best decision, since it might confuse the fandom.
Will MCU Jeopardize its Biggest Villain After Jonathan Majors’ Kang?
After previously appearing as a Skrull disguised as R. Keller in Marvel films, Ben Mendelsohn’s appearance in Fantastic Four might not sit well with fans. Although he has an incredible talent for performing negative roles, Doctor Doom doesn’t seem to be the next best role for the actor. Moreover, casting Mendelsohn might mean jeopardizing the biggest villain for Marvel, after Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.
Once facing the grave issue of almost ruining the character of Kang the Conqueror, by hiring infamous actor Jonathan Majors, Marvel shouldn’t take the risk of ruining the fan-favorite Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom. Following the post-Endgame era, the MCU has been delivering a wildly uneven quality of storytelling. Thus, further hiring Ben Mendelsohn as Doctor Doom and confusing fans, seems like a great risk for Marvel.
Kang the Conqueror has been one of the biggest MCU villains, and now Doctor Doom is being considered to take a similar mantle. Therefore, it seems casting Ben Mendelsohn might jeopardize the future of the character that Marvel is planning on. Although celebrities like Chris Evans have played two Marvel roles, Mendelsohn’s casting seems a bit difficult given that he played a Skrull who could disguise themselves as anyone.
