Matthew Lawrence first shot into fame after starring in the famous 90s sitcom, Boy Meets World as Jack Hunter. His eventual parlay into the big screen beside such celebrity figures as the late Robin Williams further worked to make him a household name. Now, however, the child actor, outgrowing his roles as supporting sidekicks in comedies, remains largely absent from the forefront of Hollywood.
Matthew Lawrence Hurls a Dangerous Allegation At Marvel
It is not every day that an actor who has maintained a moderately well-received and loved presence among the wider public comes out swinging accusations against one of the most powerful franchise studios in the world. Marvel, the studio in question, has maintained a rather bespoke record, clean of controversy and speculation, well until its Victoria Alonso and Jonathan Majors era.
However, now, it seems the cause for concern may run deeper as an unnamed Marvel director has been accused of misconduct and potential sexual abuse by the Brotherly Love alum, Matthew Lawrence. In his podcast, the actor claimed:
“There’s been many times in my life where I’ve been propositioned to get a huge role. I lost my agency because I went to the hotel room [where a prominent director] showed up in his robe, asked me to take my clothes off, said he needed to take Polaroids of me and said if I did X, Y and Z, I would be the next Marvel character.”

Although the director has remained unnamed, there have only been a handful of filmmakers associated with Marvel Studios up until recently with the launch of the expansive Phases Four and Five. As such, it can be very easy to zone in on a potential list of offenders. But the lack of a timeframe makes it anybody’s guess.
Moreover, given the uproar such an allegation can cause, Marvel may well choose to stay silent on the issue (not acknowledging the matter can act as a scandal deterrent) but if the clamoring around the subject gets intense, Feige could also be expected to address the situation in the coming weeks.
Matthew Lawrence Claims #MeToo Hasn’t Been Fair To Men
The revolutionary launch of the #MeToo movement in the latter half of the 2010s helped expedite the process of bringing numerous horrific personalities to light. The imprisonment of Harvey Weinstein and several A-listers taking accountability for their actions has seen an uptake in this period. And yet, Matthew Lawrence rightly claims:
“Not a lot of guys in my opinion have come out and talked about this in the industry. Now granted, it’s probably about a third of what women go through. Men go through this as well… I think our society is less ready to hear that situation is going on with men than they are with women.”
His statements sound dangerously close to the truth considering how hardly any noise can be heard in the tail-end of such a heavy accusation being levied at a franchise as immense and resourceful as Marvel Studios. While it can be expected that the press exposure in the coming weeks in the run-up to James Gunn’s MCU film can shed some light on the matter, the probabilities are high that the fan frenzy will serve to dig up the truth amid the celebratory farewell event for Gunn and his Guardians.
The hype surrounding his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 film – which premieres on May 5 – could work to suppress the news, and for better or for worse, act as an easy exit from a scandal for the studio.
