Metal Gear Solid is one of the most popular game franchises out there, and even over two decades after its release, the games are considered the best stealth titles. Players have been wanting Konami to remake the games, and after putting it off for several years, the developer said that it is working on the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, and it seems like that’s not the only one.
A new report has now surfaced with information on the future of the franchise and claims that Konami has planned another remake of the popular IP, which is already under early development.
Another Metal Gear Solid Remake Is in the Works at Konami
Konami announced the first MGS remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of MGS3, back in May 2023, and revealed that the game will provide a similar experience to the original game. The game is said to be a faithful remake and will bring modern gameplay mechanics and stunning visuals with immersive audio.
A new report now states that the remake of the original Metal Gear Solid is under development. According to a report from the Spanish website Areajugones, several sources have stated that the remake of the original game has been in development for years, and although it was supposed to be announced sometime in 2023, it was not for some reasons.
The report adds that the remake of the first installment is already in the early stages of production and will be the main focus of the studio after the release of MGS Delta. There are rumors that MGS Delta could be released sometime in 2024, and the remake of the original Metal Gear Solid will be the next release from the developer. It is also mentioned that the remake will be available only on PS5, suggesting that it could be the current-gen exclusive and would not be released for PS4.
However, it cannot be said for certain if it will be a PlayStation exclusive or not since the upcoming MGS Delta has already been announced to be available for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, and the remake could also be released similarly. It is also not clear which studio is helming the development or when it could be released, and seeing as MGS Delta is still without a release date, it will be a while before the Metal Gear Solid remake is released or even announced.
There have been rumors about the remake of the first installment ever since the MGS3 remake was announced, but this report is the first piece of information with so many details. Areajugones had previously leaked that a DLC for God of War Ragnarok was under development, and it was later announced at The Game Awards 2023, so there are chances that these reports might be true.
Moreover, the report has described the remake as the “most ambitious” project, so it could be a complete overhaul with impressive graphics, music, and gameplay. Konami recently released MGS Master Collection Vol. 1 with the remaster of the first three installments in the series, and although it did not have a very great reception, players are excited to see what MGS Delta will have in store for them.
The game is also said to have been developed using Unreal Engine 3, so there are chances that the remake of the first installment might also use the same engine.
Metal Gear Solid was released way back in 1998 and was set on Shadow Moses Island. The game follows Solid Snake as he takes on terrorists in a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize threats. The game was praised for its storyline, cinematic cut scenes, advanced stealth gameplay, and more that paved the way for other titles in the series, making MGS titles one of the best stealth games ever.
