While Ubisoft has been rather quiet about sharing details related to the game, Disney’s update has given gamers a renewed hope. Ubisoft is infamous for having delayed several titles, so even with all the hype there has been a lingering fear that the 2024 release date mentioned in the teaser might not happen. With Disney’s update now, a lot of those fears can hopefully be kept at bay for now.

The 2024 Release of Star Wars Outlaws Is on Schedule

Disney’s blog post update seemingly confirms the 2024 timeline is still on schedule. The blog post detailed several new attractions coming to Disney Parks along with a Fan Event later this year. The post also mentioned the upcoming game by Ubisoft is all set to release this year.

The post touched upon the open-world game’s details a bit, with a brief synopsis. Star Wars Outlaws will let players explore iconic and brand-new planets across galaxies, while playing as the protagonist, Kay Vess. Vess was shown in the teaser as being a bandit, looking to stop running and wipe the slate clean with a fresh start in life.

Vess will be accompanied by Nix, a harmless-looking animal willing to do what it takes to get Vess out of trouble. To get the ultimate reward of freedom, players will have to fight, steal, and outwit the game’s biggest syndicate, while trying to get off the galaxy’s most wanted list.

The title will look to give gamers a fresh take on exploring the galaxies, moving away from the usual themes of the franchise. Last month, Narrative Director, Navid Khavari, revealed in an interview that the game’s protagonist will have “no experience with the Empire, Jedi, Rebellion or the Sith.” Khavari explained the game will aim to give players a sense of life in the underground as a true scoundrel.

Outlaws will see players exploring familiar planets like Tatooine, Cantonica, Toshara, and several new locations. The game is said to be based on the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

While fans wait for more details to emerge, gamers will continue to keep an eye on Ubisoft to deliver the game without any further delay.

Ubisoft’s History with Delayed Games

As per Ubisoft CEO, delays happen to accommodate other titles.
As per Ubisoft’s CEO, delays happen to accommodate other titles.

Back in October of last year, Ubisoft announced a one year delay on a major undisclosed title. There was no mention of the exact title that was affected, which led to speculation that the game in question might just be Outlaws. The reason given for the delay was simply to “maximize” the game’s “value creation.

Further back last year in February, Ubisoft has an investor call to announce the cancellation of several unannounced projects. It was in this call that CEO, Yves Guillemot, had reasoned why the studio delays or cancels a project. The primary reason is to “make space for other games that are in development in the company“.

Guillemot mentioned how the studio needs to have enough games in the pipeline for 2024, while also accompanying projects for 2025. The studio released Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora last month and is working towards the release of a mobile game based on Rainbow Six, and Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence to name a few.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will be out later this month while Skull and Bones will be released next month after being delayed several times. Outlaws is one of the most anticipated titles this year, and unless there are any delays, it is bound to open to a successful first few days after launch.
