Metal Gear Solid, the stealth series, is one of the most popular game franchises out there, and the renowned creator and gaming auteur Hideo Kojima has been at the forefront of it. But the fallout between Konami and Kojima has seen the publisher distance his name from the series.
Konami recently released Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 and brought back the classic games. It has now released a video series to recap the MGS series but has once again disrespected Kojima and snubbed the mention of his name during the recap.
Metal Gear Solid Legacy Video Leaves Out Hideo Kojima
The video titled “Metal Gear Solid Legacy Series Part 1″ was uploaded on Konami’s official YouTube channel and acts as an overview of the games in the franchise. The video sees the return of Solid Snake, Old Snake, and Big Boss voice actor David Hayter after nearly a decade since his last association with the franchise, and he talks about the games and their cultural influence.
However, what baffled Kojima as well as fans of the franchise is that, despite mentioning the developers, Hideo Kojima’s name was absent from the whole video, which is a big surprise given how closely he has been associated with the games in the series, and these games are what made Kojima into one of the most popular faces in the gaming world.
The nearly six-minute video sees David Hayter talk about the games, their releases, receptions, and critical acclaim, saying that the critics called the titles one of the best ever and how they garnered a fan following of millions. He also mentions how the “developers” delivered a fun game with overarching elements but snubs Kojima.

But this is just another act of disrespect that Konami has directed towards Kojima since they parted ways, such as when his name was removed from the company’s list of executives, from the games he created, and even from the Metal Gear social media accounts.
These are just some incidents, and there are a lot more that, if talked about, could go “nonstop for days to end.” as Hayter says about the MGS games. The majority of the fans are happy to see David Hayter back in the series since Kojima replaced him in 2014’s MGS 5: Ground Zeroes and 2015’s The Phantom Pain. Still, many are sore over Kojima not being mentioned.
A fan said, “It’s amazing how they managed to talk about the history behind the games and not mention a certain name.” A player said that the publisher brought Hayter back but doesn’t want to apologize about “who shall not be named.”
