The final episodes of season 4, part 2, had a scene where he was seen to be looking down at the open lands from a cliff and crying. Eren always knew that Mikasa had a soft corner for him, so he asked her about her true feelings.
But instead of saying that she loved him, she chose to say that he was family to her. The fan theory claims that this answer changed the fate of the world and was the reason behind the rumbling. In the finale, an alternate ending is shown where Eren and Mikasa run off and are living a peaceful life in the countryside. It claimed that if Mikasa had confessed her love, then the alternate ending would have been the original one.
According to the fan theory, Mikasa lied to Eren’s face, which is why Eren went with the Rumbling. Eren always wanted the best for Mikasa in Attack on Titan. If she said yes, Eren would run away with her, and her lying led to the Rumbling, which ultimately branded her as a hero since she was the one to slay Eren Jaeger.
