Sibling dynamics can be complex, even for celebrities like Miley Cyrus and her younger sister, Noah Cyrus, who grew up in the public eye. Born into the musical family of the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, the Flowers singer rose to fame by portraying the titular character in the Disney TV series Hannah Montana, which also featured several appearances from her sister. Both would go on to star in more TV and film projects along with launching their successful music careers.
However, Noah Cyrus struggled to grow into her sister’s shadow and has been quite open about it. And it appeared to strain their relationship, which Miley Cyrus seemed to have confirmed in her acceptance speech at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.
Miley Cyrus Did Not Mention Younger Sister in Her Grammys Speech
Miley Cyrus recently won her first Grammy at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards for Record of the Year with Flowers. As she took the stage to accept the award, she thanked her mother, Tish Cyrus, and her half-sister, Brandi Cyrus, who joined her for the award ceremony.
However, notably absent from her speech were her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and younger sister, Noah Cyrus. “I don’t think I forgot anyone, but I might have forgotten underwear,” she said, concluding her speech. This omission in her speech has seemingly highlighted potential tensions within the siblings. Not only the speech, the Grammy winner also skipped mentioning them in an Instagram post, following her Grammy wins.
“I had all the perfect things to say but none of them could come out in this moment of shock. I’m happy they didn’t …,” she said in her post before adding, “because (thankfully) prepared perfection just isn’t my story.” As she thanked “every single person who made this song and album possible!” the singer once again refrained from mentioning her sister Noah Cyrus.
Miley Cyrus And Noah Cyrus’ Sibling Dynamics
Starting with her role in the Disney+ show Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus has soared to global fame and success in the music industry. Meanwhile, her sister, following a similar path, pursued acting and music but didn’t achieve the same level of recognition as the Hannah Montana star.
And the young Cyrus has been candid about her struggles. “Being born in the family I was in, everybody gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister,” she said in an Instagram live. She also recalled being constantly referred to as Hannah Montana’s sister in an interview with TMRW magazine. The singer-actress said, as per US Weekly,
“Somebody not even coming up to you and calling you by your name? That’s going to really f*ck you up as a kid—Make you feel, like, you don’t f*cking even matter to the population — for them to not even know your name.”
However, tensions among the siblings have allegedly escalated since their parent’s divorce. The Cyrus siblings appear to have chosen sides, with Miley Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus aligning with their mother, attending her wedding while skipping their father’s. Conversely, Noah Cyrus and Braison Cyrus reportedly sided with their father, attending his wedding but not participating in Tish Cyrus’ marriage.
