The goth-glam princess of Generation Z, Jenna Ortega, appears to make an awkward turn in the recently released thriller drama movie Miller’s Girl. A young woman falls in love with her teacher, and following a creative writing assignment, their relationship becomes more complex. This tale (similar to the drama we saw in Wonder Boys, Rushmore, and Summer School) is retold in this Lionsgate film, which is written and directed by rookie Jade Halley Bartlett.
With Ortega’s history of acclaimed roles, it was only natural that there would be high expectations for her next endeavor. Regretfully, with a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, her latest 93-minute flick appears to fall short of expectations, depressing audiences even more. The actress, 21, plays Cairo Sweet, a wealthy and intelligent regular student with a tragic, icy-cold personality.
Jenna Ortega’s Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Run is Ruined by Her New Film?
With roles in a number of highly regarded movies and TV series, Jenna Ortega has made a name for herself as one of Hollywood’s rising stars. However, her upcoming release seems to have put an end to her stellar Rotten Tomatoes streak. Her roles in the horror movies Scream and X, as well as the Netflix series Wednesday, have made Ortega a true scream queen. But in Miller’s Girl, the young actress is cast alongside Martin Freeman and as per the trailer, they are embroiled in a tense student-teacher dynamic.
However, the movie did not win over the audience as it went on to earn an unimpressive 27% on Rotten Tomatoes score, leaving fans scratching their heads. Because of this, many people are wondering if this movie is actually Ortega’s greatest career misfire.

Don't blame Jenna. Let's discuss the casting choice here. She feels too young for the role. Should've gone for an older actress who could pass as a college student. Kinda weird, no?

as it should this movie was weird and unneeded anyway. Hollywood needs to step away from unnecessary sequels/reboots and creepy movies like this

Although this may not have struck a chord with every viewer, it shows Ortega’s dedication to growth and willingness to challenge boundaries. Let us learn more about the film.
All You Need to Know About Jenna Ortega’s Upcoming Film
Miller’s Girl, which centers on the romance between a teacher and student and stars Jenna Ortega as Cairo Sweet and Martin Freeman as Jonathan Miller, has already stirred up a lot of discussion—not all of it positive.
Professor Miller is clearly drawn to Cairo’s creative abilities, as the trailer makes clear. The two appear to have a lot in common. But as the film progresses—characterized as a psychological thriller—we see this student-teacher dynamic become increasingly unnerving. It is hinted in the trailer that Ortega’s character will threaten and blackmail the professor if he rejects her advances.
Josh Fagen, Seth Rogen, James Weaver, Mary-Margaret Kunze, and Evan Goldberg are producing, while Jade Halley Bartlett writes and directs the upcoming film. Dagmara Domińczyk, Bashir Salahuddin, and Gideon Adlon star in Miller’s Girl alongside Ortega and Freeman.
Distributed by Lionsgate, Miller’s Girl will open in theaters on January 26, 2024.
