It remains to be seen whether Waititi managed to bring back the love from fans again with this project.
Taika Waititi Still Feels Like an Outsider in Hollywood
Taika Waititi had a release last November which was the real-life-inspired sports comedy film Next Goal Wins. The director went back to his indie roots and made a film that he was truly passionate about and which featured his signature comic style and humor.
While talking to Gamesradar, Waititi expressed how he still feels like an outsider in the industry even after working on two big tentpole studio films. He also pointed out that he has gotten a lot of support from the industry as well through his work. Waititi said,
“I do still feel like an outsider. I came into filmmaking quite late, it never really felt like it was my dream, so I already felt like an outsider in that respect. Is this really what I want to do? I like telling stories but the medium can change for me in doing that. I feel that I’m very accepted, a lot of people support me, but even then… yeah.”
