Taika Waititi is one of the most established directors in the business right now thanks to his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he received praise for his work in Thor: Ragnorak, it was the exact opposite for his next Marvel outing.

This is because of the fact that Thor: Love and Thunder made the God of Thunder far too silly and cartoony, a far cry from the brilliant character that was shown in Avengers: Infinity War and even Thor: Ragnorak. Therefore, it doesn’t help that Waitit admitted he had no interest in directing Thor, leading to outrage from fans recently.

Fans Were Outraged After Learning Taika Watiti Had No Interest In Directing Thor

Taika Watiti’s most loveable film so far is definitely Jojo Rabbit, but that doesn’t mean he is viewed positively now. While speaking during the Smartless podcast, Taika Watiti admitted he had no interest in directing the Thor movies and did it because he needed money.

You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films,” Waititi said. “It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.’”

And ‘Thor,’ let’s face it — it was probably the least popular franchise. I never read ‘Thor’ comics as a kid. That was the comic I’d pick up and be like ‘Ugh.’ And then I did some research on it, and I read one ‘Thor’ comic or 18 pages, or however long they are.”

A Twitter account posted what Taika Watiti had to say about directing Thor, which led to quite a few fans being outraged that he could even say such a thing. Needless to say, Watiti was bashed by many Marvel fans in the post.

Chris Hemsworth Wasn’t A Fan Of Thor’s Character In Thor: Love And Thunder

Chris Hemsworth became a household name for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. However, fans and critics alike simply didn’t like how his character was portrayed in Thor: Love And Thunder.

While speaking to GQ Magazine, Chris Hemsworth talked about his portrayal of Thor in Thor: Love And Thunder. The Marvel star admitted that the film was far too silly for its own good and went into detail about what he didn’t like about it.

I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly,” Hemsworth said about the movie. “It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective…I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.

It’s a bunch of eight-year-olds critiquing my film. ‘We thought this one had too much humor, the action was cool but the VFX weren’t as good,’” he said. “I cringe and laugh equally at it.”

It is to be noted that Taika Watiti will not be returning to direct Thor 5 as of yet, something that many fans are happy about. Regardless, only time will tell whether Watiti will end up directing the next film, as it seems unlikely now.
