Millie Bobby Brown is an incredibly promising actress, having set a ballpark for what the future generation of actors could be, as well as showcasing just how talented she is in her craft. She has been a part of a number of notable projects like the Enola Homes film series, Godzilla: King the of Monsters, and Godzilla vs King Kong. Despite these, the role that has helped her prove herself the most and established her as the figure that she is today has to be that of Eleven in the iconic and beloved Netflix series, Stranger Things.
This role was no easy task for Brown. Playing the role of an extremely traumatized child who can barely for a sentence at the age of 11, is no easy take for anyone. However, the young actress proved her capabilities extremely well, impressing the highly experienced individuals around her. Sometimes though, they would, naturally, forget the actress’s age, being suddenly reminded, like the time she showed up on set, covered from head to toe in glitter.
Millie Bobby Brown’s Age Did Not Change The Quality Of Her Performance
There is absolutely no doubt that Millie Bobby Brown is an exceptional actress, someone who, despite being extremely young and new to the profession, showcases that she is just as capable as those who have been a part of this industry for decades. This was something that was pointed out by the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, during an interview with NPR.
“For someone like David, who’s as experienced as he is, we’re relying on him a lot because you’re shooting a lot. So you go up to him and you ask him what he wants to do. He’s got ideas, you know, his instinct is just absolutely incredible, so you’re relying on him a lot, you’re putting a lot of trust in him to make really interesting creative decisions. And then what was interesting was by the end of the shoot, without me even realizing, I was treating Millie the same way.”
They revealed that over the course of shooting days, they started to realize that they were putting the same amount of trust in Brown when it came to the direction that she was taking her character as they were putting in David Harbour and Winona Ryder, who are both veterans to the profession.
“So someone like Winona or David, they know how to play to the camera. They know when it’s in close-up, they know when it’s not. But most child actors, they’re doing the same thing take after take after take. They’re not adjusting their performance to lens or they’re not adjusting it to camera position. But Millie absolutely is able to do that”
This was something that impressed them greatly as the young actress, especially the fact that she was aware of the camera. Ross Duffer elaborated on what he meant by this, stating that she has the ability to change her performance on the basis of the position of the camera, that being how close and far away it is. He added that this was something that a majority of child actors struggled with so the fact that this came naturally to Brown was quite impressive for them
One Time She Came To Set Covered In Glitter
Sometimes, however, this trust that they put in Millie Bobby Brown would fail them and they would be reminded of the fact that she was, still, only an eleven-year-old girl. The Duffer brothers told NPR about a specific time that this happened to them, and how that instance forced production to shut down for almost an hour. They revealed that one time, the actress showed up to the set, covered from head to toe in glitter.
“One day she showed up on set and she [was] just covered head to toe in glitter. And she’s like, “I don’t know where this glitter came from.” And it’s like I’m not having this problem with any of my adult actors. David Harbour is not coming in covered in glitter.”
She told the two creators that she had no idea where this came from, though this is quite unlikely. They then added that they were reminded how someone like David Harbour and Winona Ryder would not do something like this, however, children would. This is something that someone who is much older and experienced in the industry would not have been able to get away with and as Matt Duffer revealed, because of this, production was forced to shut down for 45 minutes due to how difficult it was to remove this, with glitter having a reputation for being difficult to get off things, especially skin.
