Though almost everything about it had been kept under wraps with little to nothing known about the upcoming video-game-based film since its announcement, fans are finally in for a treat as reports spring up about the casting details of the characters.
And, believe it or not, legendary voice actor Jack Black is a part of the upcoming movie, too! Now that we finally know about it, Black will be starring alongside Jason Momoa in the live-action version, which points at only one thing: this film is going to be epic!

As brought to our notice by sources acquired from Deadline, Jack Black will reportedly be starring in the upcoming video game-based live-action Minecraft movie. As per the sources, he will be embodying the character of Steve.
This news comes after Deadline‘s previous reports from insiders, which claimed that Jason Momoa will be starring in the film-in-development at Warner Bros., as well. Though no details have been revealed about Momoa’s role, he is expected to star alongside Black in the lead.
Moreover, the source has also briefed that some of the other cast members for the movie allegedly include Wednesday star Emma Myers, The Color Purple actress Danielle Brooks, and Just Mercy child actor Sebastian Eugene Hansen, as well.
It’s worth noting that the Mojang Studios’ developed game this film will be based on has earned the title of becoming one of the bestselling video games of all time with its sales of 300 million copies globally (as per Forbes) along with over a whopping 140 million monthly active players worldwide (data by SearchLogistics).
Since the plot of the movie has been kept strictly under wraps, not many details have been made known about it except that Jared Hess will reportedly be directing, with Roy Lee and Mary Parent producing alongside Mojang’s Lydia Winters and Vu Bui.
More reports include news that Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts will apparently be serving as the executive producers of the film.

He voiced the audiobook of the Minecraft novel “The Island”, which is from the persepctive of a player character, so this kind of makes sense to me.

Judging from their excited reactions, it won’t really come as a surprise if the live-action videogame-based Minecraft movie gets declared as one of the most awaited films of the year 2025 (the movie is reportedly slated for 2025).
Furthermore, considering Deadline’s reports that the production for the videogame-based film is “about to get underway on Warner Bros/Vertigo/Legendary’s feature take on Mojang/Microsoft’s Minecraft,” it seems fans may not face a delay with their much-anticipated movie, either!
