Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is out worldwide and gamers, those on PlayStation 5 at least, are having the time of their lives but faced with a decision to favor either framerate or resolution, an issue that Mirror’s Edge doesn’t have despite being an old Xbox 360 title that can achieve a crispy 4K resolution with 60 frames per second thanks to the backward compatibility on the Xbox Series X which makes the Starfield situation a little more awkward.

Games nowadays look even better than they have before and some may say better than real life, however, they struggle at running games with high frame rates and resolution. Developers have given users on modern consoles the option to either go for a better performance which will affect the resolution and vice versa.

There is no denying that the hype surrounding the release of the second chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is through the roof, players want to jump right in immediately. Unfortunately, in some parts of Asia and Japan, their experience is a little more confusing due to the misprinted discs which isn’t that big of a deal and not a game-breaking experience. Others consider having to choose to favor graphics over performance to be a much bigger deal. Comparing modern titles to older games like Mirror’s Edge showcases the graphical fidelity it had for its time.

User Jamie Moran shared footage of the 16-year-old game running on his Xbox Series X on his X page. Something even Starfield can’t achieve, being limited to an embarrassing 30 fps and not even offering a performance mode.

This an unfortunate reality for people who want to experience the best of both worlds, but for those who aren’t too keen on these sorts of things, it doesn’t take away any enjoyment factor a game can give.

Mirror’s Edge Schools Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Starfield

The intense combat in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes the performance mode a much more reasonable and practical way to play, the visuals will still look remarkable regardless. This correlates to the never-ending debate that game developers should prioritize what the game needs, for shooter titles or any competitive game, the obvious choice would also be performance.

Mirror’s Edge is a shining example of how incredible a game could look with a 62 frame rate cap and running on 4K resolution, it was a boost from the incredible power of the Xbox Series X hardware, anything can look next-gen on that beast of a machine, so how come Starfield can’t? Director Todd Howard shares it was always Bethesda’s priority to do so.
