There have been plenty of celebrity cameos and pop culture references sprinkled throughout Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These include popular hip-hop artists Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and 21 Savage, along with the most recent guest appearance by none other than the iconic heroine from the Tomb Raider series, Lara Croft.

Fortunately, the list does not just stop there, because there is a secret animation in the game that pays homage to a Christian Bale film. The secret animation in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 actually involves your weapon and is quite a slick reference to an action-heavy Bale movie.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 subtly breathed life into an otherwise forgotten 2002 film, Equilibrium, which starred Christian Bale in the lead, through a secret weapon animation that pays direct homage to the dystopian science-fiction action film. In fact, every single gun in the game comes with a distinct animation that players can enjoy if they actually let it play out fully.

The Season 5 Reloaded update for the first-person shooter was launched on August 30 and introduced plenty of fresh content that would be “carried forward” into the sequel, Modern Warfare 3, including new weapons and another multiplayer map.

Players will be able to play the third instalment in November with their Modern Warfare 2 weapons, accessories, and operators, thanks to the newly introduced Carry Forward feature. A new weapon that stands out in Season 5 is easily the 9mm Daemon, a pistol that is actually based on the very real Staccato 2011. Call of Duty players will also be able to use the pistol in akimbo mode, but only if they have levelled it up during online multiplayer matches.

As with the majority of the latest video game updates, it was a Reddit user who first noticed that the animation for the aforementioned pistols in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 bears an uncanny resemblance to Christian Bale’s signature pose from his film Equilibrium.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 references Equilibrium, a sci-fi film in which Christian Bale plays a law enforcement officer who just happens to be a gun kata expert, which is a form of martial arts that combines kung fu with guns.

The aforementioned Reddit user took it upon themselves to show just how similar the secret animation looks to Bale’s signature pose in the movie, and others quickly agreed that the resemblance was uncanny.

The akimbo pistols in the game have the same angular position as their film counterpart, but of course, because of the first-person perspective that these games follow, it felt just a bit different.

When Christian Bale strikes the pose in Equilibrium, he holds his weapons near his waistline, but in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the pistols are animated right in front of the character’s face. But like with all nice things, there is always a catch, as many players have not let the cool reference stop them from complaining about the 9mm Daemon akimbo pistol being bugged in the game.
