Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Campaign is available as part of the early access from November 2 ahead of the release of multiplayer on November 10. Activision did the same with the Modern Warfare 2 last year but it seems like haven’t learned anything from their mistakes in the previous game.
Players are criticizing the campaign for its lacking quality and being extremely short in length. The narrative-driven single-player campaign has failed to impress fans playing Modern Warfare 3 in early access and they termed it as dull, boring, and lacking in both depth and length.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Is the Worst Ever and Short Too
The Call of Duty franchise is known for its action-packed gameplay and the single-player campaign in the latest entry in the franchise hasn’t been received well by the fans and is getting criticism left and right.. The campaign is extremely short with thin storytelling and players are not having it, terming it as the “worst ever Call of Duty campaign.”
The campaigns in Call of Duty games are usually five to eight hours long and the campaign in Modern Warfare 3 is very short for a CoD game. The campaign averages to only three to five hours which is quite a reduction in playtime in comparison to the campaigns in the previous titles.
Players who have loved the last few campaigns, especially the one in the original Modern Warfare 3 have taken to the internet and have gone rogue on the developers. The short campaign isn’t the only reason why it is facing criticism. Players have also accused the campaign of being full of dull missions and a thin storyline.
The game has 15 missions, two fewer than the previous game, and revisits to certain places including Verdansk. Players have criticized the developers for reusing certain locales as well as accused open-combat missions of being hollow and missing content, failing to make an impression. Milo on X stated:
Hate to say it but the story told in the MW3 campaign is a 2/10 for me. I’m not saying this to blindly hate on it – I just genuinely don’t feel they moved the characters/plot forward in a meaningful way at all.
Another Modern Warfare 3 player and X user KingsBlood added:
LAWD this Modern Warfare 3 campaign is Warzone missions with cutscenes. I should have known it was $70 DLC. This is some Xbox-type of stuff here. Rushed is an understatement.
The Gaming Revolution further mentioned:
Just finished the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign and that was so unbelievably poorly written. No tension. No stakes. All just felt like pointless filler.
The plot of the campaign has also failed to connect with the players as they called it underdeveloped and uninspired. Some of the popular characters in the franchise also have boring arcs in Modern Warfare 3.
Players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the campaign especially since they paid full price for Modern Warfare 3 and much of the gear that they get in the game is from the previous game for which also they paid the same price.
Modern Warfare 3 has a file size whopping 200 GB and Activision recently defended this saying that is due to the increased amount of content from day 1 such as open world Zombies, support for items that are carried forward from Modern Warfare 2, and map files for Call of Duty: Warzone. This is now clear that it has nothing to do with new content as the game barely feels whole.
It is speculated that Modern Warfare 3 was initially planned to be an expansion for Modern Warfare 2 but was then announced as a standalone title. There were expansion rumors as it was suggested that there would not be a new entry in the franchise this year
However, those rumors were soon debunked with the announcement of Modern Warfare 3. Also looking at how the game brings maps from the original game and the weapons and gears are carried forward from Modern Warfare 2, it just might have been a DLC.
