With the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign early access PlayStation and Xbox users have started facing issues with the game. The game-sharing feature is not working, and players have been expressing their discontent regarding the same.
This is in light of the game’s release on November 10, but those who have pre-ordered a copy of Modern Warfare 3 can play the game’s single-player campaign. In an ideal scenario, without any issues.
Issues Like These Beat the Purpose of a Pre-order
One of the main reasons why someone would pre-order the game has to do with getting access to the content a little earlier than the rest of the world. This time, Modern Warfare 3’s campaign was that particular attraction that drew players in. Despite the campaign’s controversial reviews, looking forward to a ‘new’ experience in a Call of Duty game is part of the excitement.
Players were supposedly going to enjoy the campaign until the game arrived with its multiplayer and Zombies modes. However, gamesharing’s unavailability makes it complicated for Xbox and PlayStation players to experience the game early. Or at least, have an enjoyable time regardless of bugs/glitches. Game sharing is a powerful feature that allows players to share their games (digital copies) with anyone else. This is quite a useful service when families or friends want to enjoy the experience without having to buy multiple copies of the game.

An update has gone live to address an issue causing some Players to encounter a "disc required" error. Please restart the game for the update to take effect. https://t.co/6lFdnV8ZUH
If there’s no fix for this soon, players will have to accept the fact that Modern Warfare 3 does not have a game-sharing option at all. This certainly hurts the community in one way or another and makes the future of the franchise (in the context of the single-player campaign) a bit questionable. Many have already labeled the game as a ‘DLC’ since it shares the hub of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone.
Recently, we also learned how the game doesn’t have a Platinum trophy to unlock on the PlayStation 5, which has already taken way much of the charm from the game’s single-player experience, especially for completionists.
While the game-sharing option being completely missing from the game is only speculation, we have to wait and hear more from the developers about the same.
The Modern Warfare 3 Campaign Has Bigger Issues to Deal With
The lack of a Platinum trophy to unlock on a PlayStation 5 and game sharing being missing from consoles are a few of the issues with Modern Warfare 3’s campaign.
Just finished the Modern Warfare 3 Campaign and that was so unbelievably poorly written. No tension. No stakes. All just felt like pointless filler.

It played it so safe once again. No originality, nothing new.

Players have been voicing out their opinions regarding the campaign’s lack of quality, originality, and filler-esque missions that don’t take the narrative in a faithful direction. This is a matter of expectations and standards, after all, given how the older Modern Warfare games set a benchmark for first-person shooter storytelling in the Call of Duty universe.
For players who have experienced the previous game (Modern Warfare 2), a comparison can be made in terms of originality. With Modern Warfare 3’s campaign, there is a heavy feeling of repetitiveness and lack of depth which would otherwise be expected from familiar (and new) characters in the franchise. To make matters worse, the campaign lasts a short few hours (around 4) which hardly justifies a pre-order or early access offer that players paid for.
Moreover, scattered attention across multiplayer, Warzone, Zombies, and other ways of playing the game begs the question of single-player experiences. Call of Duty started out as an industry-standard franchise that juggles deep, dark realities of warfare and tells some of the strongest stories told in the first-person shooter genre. To carry on that legacy is quite a task.
However, given Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a change in management and creative vision may have Call of Duty embark on a new journey. A path that improves on Modern Warfare 3’s storytelling shortcomings and brings about a much-needed change in the game’s single-player experience.
