Mortal Kombat 1 is just over a month away from hitting stores and the journey to its release has been filled with leaks. The NetherRealm Studio title, headed by Ed Boon, has seen unofficial announcements related to fighters, location, gameplay, mechanics and more. This trend is likely to continue until the game becomes available on September 19 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. While gamers may see more official disclosures at the upcoming Gamescom in Cologne Germany next week, they will have to settle with these leaks until then.

The most recent leak indicates the possible last Kameo fighter. According to a post on the sub-Reddit page r/Mortalkombatleaks, which is known for having a collection of reliable users, the last of the Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo fighters will be Shujinko. The message which was posted by @bac736, says the following:

“I haven’t seen much actual confirmation from other people but Shujinko is one of the last kameos. In the image I have it’s him and then the last slot is a silhouette with a question mark on him so I can’t tell if it’s a random select or a secret kameo.

Edit: everyone saying this is fake just look at my comment history. I’ve been right every time so far.”

The user has in fact been verified in the past for providing accurate information and it is very likely Shujinko will be coming to Mortal Kombat 1. NetherRealm has not done a very good job containing leaks, although in some ways it appears the studio is not trying very hard to keep a lid on its secrets. Perhaps, the company feels that as long as these leaks remain as merely conjecture, then there is no harm in letting fans run with the information. Mortal Kombat 1 is highly anticipated among players and these leaks may prove to be more exciting to anxious fans than any official reveal.

Who Is Shujinko and What Are Kameo Fighters in Mortal Kombat 1?

Shujinko may be coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as a Kameo fighter.
Shujinko may be coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as a Kameo fighter.

If you are unfamiliar with Shujinko, the fighter was the main character and Konquest Mode protagonist in 2004’s Mortal Kombat: Deception. The last time the character fully appeared in a Mortal Kombat game was Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in 2006. He was also referenced in Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11, however these were very minor easter eggs for fans of the fighter. Now it appears the character will be returning in Mortal Kombat 1 in a more significant role.

If you are unfamiliar with Kameo fighters, these are a unique roster of characters who will help you during a fight and expand your move possibilities. Nevertheless, they are simply around to aid you, and not meant to be playable characters. So unfortunately, if you were hoping to play as Shujinko, the best you will get to do is have him join you as a partner. Other Kameo fighters include: Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, Tremor, Ferra, Frost, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and many more. Mortal Kombat 1 has grown an impressive collection of Kameo fighters, but there will certainly be gamers disappointed by not having complete access to some of the more anticipated character.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be a massive release for Neather Realm Studios. As it gets closer, we will learn more about the game and continue to report the most exciting information.

What do you think of Shujinko potentially returning as a Kameo fighter? Will you be using him as a partner when Mortal Kombat 1 finally releases? Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts.
