The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a fantasy Amazon Prime series created by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. With a total budget of $465 million – $58 million per episode, it is one of the most costly series. And it cost $41 million more than the per-episode budget of $17 million. Though it gained a lot of attention because of the franchise, the series was not quite up to the name.

2. Citadel

Citadel is an American spy action thriller Amazon Prime TV series produced by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil, with the Russo brothers serving as executive producers. Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are in the lead roles in the series. Citadel’s production costs exceed $300 million. This makes it the second most costly show of all time, trailing only The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video. The budget although way over that of the One Piece live-action series’ budget, did not get much appreciation.

3. Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is an American television miniseries on Disney+. It was developed by Kyle Bradstreet, based on the 2008 Marvel Comics tale of the same name. It is the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The series reportedly had a budget of $212 million, but still was not the best work of Marvel. Netflix’s One Piece live-action got much more applause on its first day, compared to the Secret Invasion.

4. The Pacific

The Pacific is a miniseries produced by HBO, Playtone, and DreamWorks in 2010. The show is a sequel to the 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers. The Pacific was produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman. The per-episode budget of the series was $20 million and it made its way into the list of top most expensive TV series. It was a big budget creation of HBO but still, it could not get the credit.

House of the Dragon is an HBO fantasy drama television series developed by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal streaming on HBO Max. It is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise and serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones. It costs around $20 million per episode making the total budget around $200 million. It got a lot of recognition because of the Game of Thrones association, but it could reach up to the level of the main series.
