The third episode of Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s “First Vacation” is funny and entertaining. Additionally, the series develops a pattern in which the audience begins to figure out what this show is really about. John and Jane begin to track a couple on the brink of divorce.

If you notice, the series has dealt with people in different phases of their relationships. Ones that want to have affairs. People who are depressed think about how lonely they are, wishing they had love. As Mr. and Mrs. Smith observe their behaviors, they reflect on their short relationship in the honeymoon phase.

Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024) Season 1 Episode 3 Recap: Who do John and Jane spy on at the Fones Hotel?

Gavol and Parker Martin are John and Jane’s targets at the Fones Hotel. They check in and are watching through secret CCTV in the hotel room. John and Jane are playing honeymooners in the next-door suite. Gavol and Parker have a child together.

They also observe them fighting and bickering all hours of the day. Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and Billy Campbell (The Killing) play the Martins. They aim to observe, bug both their phones, and record an important phone call at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Finally, “Do not fail.” Hihi sends champagne. “Please enjoy. Please finish the mission this time,” says the note. Reading the passive-aggressive note, John says he didn’t know Hihi was a woman. They laugh, kiss, and, we assume, have sex. The relationship between the fake couple is growing.

Who is John secretly calling?

John secretly calls his mom—yes, even after Hihi tells him he must cut off all ties with the outside world. They find this out when stuck on a ski lift. John comes clean. Jane explains that he called her at the gym this morning. She now knows that he was probably calling her when he was “meditating” on the last episode. In Jane’s eyes, this is a betrayal.

They had built trust. This violates that trust, putting the mission, his family, and possibly them in danger. Mr. and Mrs. Smith then fight. After the husband tells his wife he is considering separation, they follow the Parkers as they take a break. The reasoning is that the wife, who owns a company that has the same network in Australia, works too much.

John flirts with Gavol, getting her a bowl of rice. The reason is that her phone has some droplets of moisture on it while she is in the sauna. Jane talks to Parker. He unloads his feelings on Jane, complaining about his wife working too much. She hacks his phone while helping download a game so he can relate to his tech-geek son. John does it while taking the phone out of the rice.

Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 Episode 3 Ending Explained:  Who abducts Gavol?

We aren’t sure who abducts Gavol, but it appears to be a terrorist group hell-bent on wanting her to relinquish 51% of their shares. This is what the 5 p.m. call is about. John hears Gavol abducted while listening on his phone. Jane hears the terrorist demands on Parker’s phone. Gavol’s husband hilariously says no to the terrorists, even when they threaten to kill her.

To his credit, he then vomited. Jane tells John not to rescue her because it’s not part of their mission. However, he tries anyway and succeeds. Jane thinks he is ignoring her calls. She sends him nasty messages. John, while fighting, turns on the location of his phone so Jane can track him.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith ends with Jane finding him coldly lying in the snow. She takes him back to the hotel and puts him in cold water because he is frozen. He asks her to rub his penis because it’s frozen. You know, to save it. Well, duty calls, and she helps thaw it. John then suggests she use her mouth. He then laughs, and she realizes he is joking.
