The Mr. & Mrs. Smith episode titled “A Breakup” is a near-perfect hour of streaming television. The script is funny, and the visuals are action-packed. However, most important is the creative storytelling utilized to break down walls between John and Jane.
Glover’s direction explores a void we create in our personal lives. Most importantly, how we are more honest with complete strangers than we are with the ones we love.
Who does Hihi order Jane to kill?
Hihi sends Jane a message that reads, “TERMINATE YOUR JOHN.” This message wakes Jane up from her depression. She wakes up by herself. Max is next to her, but John is not. You can tell she’s lonely and doesn’t know how to tell John she wants him back. After receiving the message, she is about to text John but decides against doing so. Yes, Jane is cold.
Who killed the Cat, Max?
We don’t know who killed Jane’s cat, Max. We do know that while she is cooking breakfast, she drops a utensil and bends over. She hears a bullet bounce off the counter. Poor Max is alarmed but stays on the counter, oblivious to what may happen next. While staying hidden and avoiding bullets, Jane feels blood drop on her hand from above. It’s Max, who is lying dead on the kitchen counter.
Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024) Season 1 Episode 8 Recap: What does John find at his mom’s home?
John finds a bomb at his mother’s home. John has moved his mother to the city and walks her back home. When he arrives, he notices the toilet seat. He sends his mom away. He then finds a bomb on the floor near the corner. If he had walked in, it would have detonated. He messages Jane, saying they need to talk.
Why does Jane attempt to murder John?
Jane tries to kill John because she thinks she killed Max while trying to kill her. She invites him to the art gallery to talk. She is cold and distant, saying he’s the cruelest man in the world. That takes John aback. She asks to speak outside. Jane is a couple of paces ahead of him.
When they reach the revolving doors, they’re stuck. Jane placed a bomb inside, keeping John trapped. The bomb detonates, but John manages to avoid the blast. He spots Jane, who sees him, and he chases her.
What does John’s mom tell Jane?
After John chases Jane through the city, where a series of fistfights and daring maneuvers occur, Jane escapes. She makes it back home, where John’s mom is cooking dinner. John’s mom explains that Michael must feel safe to feel loved. He wants her to know that before making a final decision on divorce. She then leaves.
Who is Harris Materbach?
Materbach is the man Jane describes as a “hot neighbor.” John makes it home but doesn’t have a key. John asks Harris to let him through his home to go around back. John finds blueprints and pictures of Mr. and Mrs. Smith at his desk. Harris isn’t sleeping with Jane, but he’s a purchasing agent doing recon for Sotheby’s to buy the Mr. and Mrs. Smith Brownstone.
What does John inject Jane with?
John (Donald Glover) and Jane then have a heated gun battle inside their home, where John manages to inject Jane with truth serum. He then injects it into himself as well. This way, they can finally have an honest conversation.
They do come to an understanding about her insecurities and his needs. However, the biggest revelation is that John never killed Max. It wasn’t Jane who planted the bomb in his mother’s home.
What is “Finalizing?”
That’s when Other John and Other Jane Smith enter and explain that “finalizing” kills other Smiths. They killed Max, and they tried to kill John. Or they wanted to instigate them to kill each other or have one kill the other to give them the advantage.
Out of respect, they keep them sitting before pulling the trigger. But that’s when Other John begins to sneeze, and he does it in threes. John runs, and Jane manages to blind John with a gunshot. They escape to a safe room, with Other Jane trying to locate them.

Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith Season 1 Episode 8 Ending Explained: What is Jane’s real name?
Jane’s real name is Lara. She tells John that after seeing him, he has been shot in the stomach and is bleeding out. It appears now that the serum is wearing off. Jane has now learned to express her feelings. She loves him dearly.
Jane tells John she wants two kids so she cannot die. John has a plan that will take too long. Jane only takes control because it means saving him. She stands up, has her gun drawn at the door, and begins to count to three.
How does Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 end?
After the three counts, we see flashes of gunfire from the street on the top level of John and Jane’s Brownstone. Then, the end credits roll.
How does Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith have a post-credits scene?
No, Mr. & Mrs. Smith does not, so fans must wait until season 2 to find out if John and Jane survived.
