All episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are now streaming on Disney+ and if the reports of the viewership are anything to go by, we can assume that Season 2 of the show will be all but confirmed. However, Percy Jackson actor Walker Scobell is concerned about one thing about Season 2.

Percy Jackson might be the child of the sea God, but Walker Scobell sure ain’t. While the young actor has been able to embody the character well, there is one aspect of the demigod that Scobell has categorically found difficult to emulate, so much so that the actor has said that he would be a little nervous going into Season 2, if it were to happen.

During the last two days of filming for the first season of Percy Jackson, Walker Scobell shot all his underwater scenes, most of which were from episodes 4 and 6. Given that he is portraying the son of Poseidon, Scobell is expected to be comfortable underwater and acting around it. However, there is only so much open eyes can take in a sanitized pool of water, and it is bound to worsen if Season 2 of the series is green-lit.

Season one of Percy Jackson and the Olympians adapted the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief. While there would be some work involving water, it would be nothing compared to the amount that would be required for adapting the second book, Sea of Monsters. Set at sea and around water bodies for the most part, the second season would involve a lot more underwater acting work, something that Scobell spoke about in an interview with tvinsider. The actor said:

“My last day was all the underwater stuff. In Episode 4, after I fall off the [St. Louis] arch, and then in Episode 6, when I talk to the naiad, that was my last two days, completely underwater. “Those were really fun, but I’m a little bit nervous for next season because — since I have to keep my eyes open [while filming underwater], on the second day, my eyes really started burning — I’ll probably have to do a week of that.”

The second season of the series, if green-lit, would have a lot more water for Scobell to work with, making his dilemma with keeping his eyes open, given that just two days of shooting was hell on the young actor’s eyes.

Despite the limitations that an underwater scene brings, it seems like Scobell could not be more excited to come back for the show, should it be greenlit for a second season. A lot of praise has been heaped on the young actor for portraying Percy Jackson, and the supporting casts of fellow demigods, gods and monsters have also received A+ ratings for their work.

Scobell has also mentioned how he would like Season 2 of the show to pan out, saying:

“I hope that we’re out in the sun a lot, so I’m not transparent anymore. It’s going to be fun. We really have no idea [if the show has been renewed yet]. Nobody’s telling us anything, but I’m guessing since we’re outside a lot, we’re probably going to be more on location. So it’ll be fun to be there and be close to the water, be outside, touch grass.”

While Season 2 is yet to be announced, it seems that the cast at large is prepared to come back at that drop of a hat. With reviews that the previous adaptation of the material could wish it had, Percy Jackson and the Olympians might be on its way to becoming a major IP for Disney, as the Riordanverse finds its way to television with subsequent seasons.
