Sarah Michelle Gellar Doesn’t Regret Passing Up Projects
Having her breakthrough role in 1997, Gellar portrayed the role of Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Created and directed by Joss Whedon (known for directing The Avengers), the series was indeed remarkable although it wasn’t considered seriously for awards.
Talking about her career and Hollywood throughout the years, Michelle Gellar revealed that due to her commitment, she had to miss out on several roles. Stating to The Guardian that her mother was a single mom, Michelle Gellar had to help her out and also look out for her career.
“My mom was a single mother, working just above the poverty line, and I got to travel the world, to see and do things that would never have been afforded to me.”
The dedication to the role of Buffy Summers cost Michelle Gellar a chance to work with veteran director David Fincher on the sets of his masterpiece Fight Club. The commitment also ended up with Sarah Michelle Gellar not able to star in Martin Scorsese’s iconic 2002 movie Gangs of New York.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Feels Female Superheroes Get Torn Apart!
Although the actress tried to keep her career floating and relevant, the changing times didn’t allow her to do so. Talking about the change in Hollywood movies and superhero movies (especially Marvel), Sarah Michelle Gellar feels that female superheroes get torn apart by fans due to backward mentality.
“Genre is where women can really succeed and hold an audience. Every time a Marvel movie tries to do a female cast, it just gets torn apart … Unfortunately, audiences weren’t as accepting. There’s still this mentality of ‘the male superhero’, this very backwards way of thinking.”
