Alexander Skarsgard Almost Broke Into Tears Recalling His Cheat Day Meal

The months leading up to The Legend of Tarzan‘s production were torturous for the Swedish actor. The strict routine involved him following a strict sugar-, gluten-, wheat-, dairy- and alcohol-free regimen, eating six small meals, and partaking in two workout sessions a day. Reasonably, he was ecstatic the first time he was allowed a cheat day by his trainer during this rigorous schedule as The Northman Star almost broke into tears while recalling the moment.

Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Skarsgard recalled,

“It was on a Sunday – we shot the movie in London and we were at the gym lifting weights and I guess he just saw that my will to live was fading. It had been five months of broccoli, chicken breasts and that kind of stuff… I got to eat pizza, pasta, tiramisu. I get emotional just talking about it!”

Unfortunately, despite Skarsgard’s extreme efforts and an impeccable supporting cast of Margot Robbie and Samuel L. Jackson, The Legend of Tarzan left a lot to be desired for fans and critics.

Margot Robbie Recalled Alexander Skarsgard’s Happiness for an Apple

While the movie had a lot of elements that held it back upon its release, Alexander Skarsgard was arguably its best part, as he successfully transformed himself into the character. And reflecting on the actor’s strict diet for the part, Margot Robbie recalled the True Blood Star’s happiness after he was allowed to eat an apple. She told EW:

“I remember the day that he was allowed an apple, and he kissed the apple. It hit me how deprived you are if you’re that excited to see a piece of fruit.”

Although a box-office collection of $356.7M would be considered a success for most releases, keeping in mind The Legend of Tarzan‘s enormous budget of $180M, it was certainly a letdown.

The Legend of Tarzan is available to rent on Apple TV.
