Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars and her popularity has often resulted in some feuds with other celebrities. Swift is known for her feuds with other singers such as Kanye West and Katy Perry. However, one of her lesser-known feuds is with singer Nicki Minaj. Swift and Minaj were embroiled in a Twitter feud a few years ago that many fans might have forgotten.
Back in 2015, Swift and Minaj were both gaining incredible success with several hit songs under their belt. Moreover, the duo seemed to have shared mutual love and respect for each other. However, Swift and Minaj came to a crossroads after the 2015 VMA nominations were announced, starting a feud between them. Here is what happened between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj and what started their infamous feud.
Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Feuded Over a VMA Nomination
Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj are two of the most famous singers with legions of fans supporting them. Their feud might not be the most famous but the singers did undergo some friction in the past. At the 2015 Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift received a nomination for her song Bad Blood, in the Video of the Year category.
However, Minaj was dissatisfied with the lack of nominations for her songs in the same category. The Anaconda singer took to Twitter (now known as X) to voice her displeasure with the snub. After an initial tweet aimed at the VMAs, stated the following in a second tweet:
When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Minaj followed up the above tweet by criticizing the VMAs for nominating videos that celebrate women with very slim bodies. As a result, it was speculated that Minaj was talking about Swift and her nomination for the Bad Blood music video, which features several models in it.
Swift added further fuel to the fire by responding to Minaj’s tweets. In a since-deleted tweet (via Billboard), Swift stated the following:
“I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”
However, Minaj defended herself by stating that her tweets were not meant as a disrespect to Swift or other artists. Nonetheless, by this point, fans of both singers got involved in the drama.
Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Might Have Moved On From Their Feud
Swift later tweeted to apologize to Minaj and admitted that she misunderstood Minaj’s tweets and misspoke. Minaj accepted the apology and expressed a desire to move on from the feud. As a result, it seemed like Swift and Minaj buried the hatchet between them. Moreover, their feud only lasted a short time and did not seem to burn any bridges between the two.
Swift and Minaj later shared the stage together at the 2015 VMAs, implying their feud had ended. However, the rumors of a rift between the two once again emerged in 2017 when Minaj tweeted the following after Swift released her new song Look What You Made Me Do.
Nigga sit down. Be humble

Fans interpreted the tweet to be a dig at Swift. Minaj also contributed a verse to Katy Perry’s song Swish Swish, which is widely believed to be a Taylor Swift diss track. However, for her part, Swift seems to have kept things amicable between her and Minaj. Meanwhile, Minaj presented Swift with an award at the 2023 VMAs, once again hinting that things had gone back to normal between her and Swift.
